I don't know why people in general "don't like how the industry works anymore". 2010 was amazing and 2011 even better if you are into indie and alternative games, and things like Steam have been a godsend for that kind of games. Then there are some established devs like Atlus, THQ, Arena Net, to some extent Valve and Bethesda just to name a few off the top of my head trying to do innovative and interesting stuff, sometimes failing, sometimes succeding.

There are over a hundred well established game developers, and a bunch of indie studios. If you are fed with Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, Konami (can't forgive what they did to Castlevania), I agree; if you hate Activision, well, i like em, but i can see that; still i really don't think "the industry" is on a downfall, each decade seems to be better for me (started late 80's).

OT: Well... my favourite Bioware game is MDK, and IMO their second best game came AFTER they were part of EA. I know, i know, baldurs gate, yeah, it was interesting and deep, but i found the gameplay lacking to say the least.

This. Everyone loves to rage about stuff like this but in the end, they don't show their opinion in the one way that matters, by not buying their games.

You appear to have missed the point of boycotts.

See, the idea isn't that one guy will not go out and buy their stuff, but that a horde of people won't.
What Clive is getting at is most likely that, in case we're dissatisfied with this or that, we should not buy their games, in order to make them consider what could be improved.

I don't take this thread very seriously, though, due to OP outright stating that he doesn't care that much, considering he is still going to buy Mass Effect 3.

DA2 WAS NOT A BAD GAME.

Worst than the first one. Not an AMAZING game. But it was mediocre at worst.

I've called DA2 the most average game of 2011.
OP: Yeah, I heard that they butchered the characters pretty hard. I feel for the fans. Just declare it non-canon.

Not that I do this but I believe some people pirate in the name of justice. The best way to get a company to change their minds is by hitting them in their wallets by making sure they don't receive money through boycott or piracy.

The trouble is, companies tend to also look at any available statistics regarding the number of pirated copies of the game, and see them not as sales lost to "justice", but rather sales lost to gamers who just didn't feel like paying. If you really want to send a message to a company, you have to have the will to keep away from their products completely, instead of hiding behind rationalizations while you cave.

Sadly that is a very valid point. The exact reason I haven't pirated any Activision games yet.

The thing is that they released some of their best titles with EA as their publisher.

Dragon Age was also released with EA in charge.

No. Just no.

It should be noted that both Mass Effect and Dragon Age began life when Bioware was independent. EA bought them up just before the release of Mass Effect.

Both had the bulk of the work finished on them already. That's why they had about 4 years of development time.

Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2 however...fully created under EA's watch.

I think it's safe to assume that's why they both had shorter development times, big chunks removed and resold as DLC or Preorder "bonuses", and were generally "streamlined" towards the COD market by focusing on the action, rather then the deeper RPG elements.

The more you know.

People didn't just start hating Bioware because it was cool.
It was the systematic breaking down of all the great elements of the developers that once were and the horrible mistreatment of long time fans.
(Though Bioware do often get credit for alot of Black Isle's work on the older titles)
