Why do I have the feeling something is still going to go wrong. That'd be funny.

flops? that is unlikely. however, i won't be going anywhere near the game until at least a full month after release. what with all the pre-orders (breaking records from what i have read) i can only imagine how bad it's likely to be.

you would have to be masochistic to try to play on day 1.

Really looking forward to seeing how this game turns out. Not looking for a WoW killer or anything and have ultra high expectations that its going to be epic or anything. But I've enjoyed KOTOR and a lot of other Bioware games so I'm interested how the game turns out.

Wise move, mmos need a good launch and releasing it in a substandard state to meet deadline set by execs who don't even look at the game is not the way to go.

I personally think they are keeping the release date from the public because they are worried. Yes, it might be the most pre-ordered EA game ever, but they have been receiving a bit of flak for some of the game design.

I supposed at this stage, unless the game is ABSOLUTELY fantastic, people will have some gripes with it. I think three years in development is the point of no return; either perfect or hell to pay. Example; Duke Nukem, Daikatana... Other games I can't remember. I'm sure someone will call me up on a game that breaks this rule.

Half Life 2 took years to make, but it was fantastic. I just don't see SW:TOR attaining the same lofty heights.

Alternatively, I could be completely wrong. But we'll see I suppose =)
Truth is, you can never please the MMO crowd. The most stubborn group of gamers in my opinion is them. I guess thats what happens when you stick to a game for more than 3+ years. I think it has the potential to be great but I think the worst it will do is turn out like RIFT and get a steady amount of subscribers but nothing ground-breaking.

It's around October 14th.
At least it better be or I am going to punch a puppy.
That would be the most terrible thing in the history of ever. Coming out the same time as Arkham City, when would I ever have time to sleep?

There's no such thing as a bug free modern game release. The ubiquity of the internet has made the dev bug hunters lazy. I don't think I've played anything in the last 5 or 6 years that didn't have a patch or two.

very little will go wrong, they've had play-test servers up for ages they're reasonably bug free only small issues like mounting lag bugs and other small glitches that will be ironed out

anyone can hire a few thousand gigs of server space for a couple months, so i cant see there being an issue there

the biggest problems i foresee is mismanagement, such as things like dlc or day one boosts to xp and cause nerd-rage
personally i don't like the staggered launch either, the second i heard about that i decided not to pre-order because if they're going to pull a stunt like that i have no faith they wont screw more things up

there's also a premium shop for pre-orders to buy cosmetic crap for your avatars which s sure to cause severe elitism in the in-game community

Basically taking the same route as ArenaNet.
Though as much as I like BioWare, I can't imagine this going up against GW2 once it's released.

However, I do think it'll help...revive the Star Wars franchise in a good way. Instead of just poking the corpse and saying it's alive again.

Most games take several years to complete. From start to finish, I mean. Unfortunately, TOR was revealed too early, so the public perception is that development is taking too long when in actuality, it's probably not. Anyone expecting perfection will be disappointed, but I think it's going to be a good game and a solid MMO.

Pre-release criticism isn't keeping them from revealing the date. That's giving the critics too much credit.
