THAT is what the genre (and Mass Effect) was missing, a generic super soldier meathead.
I mean it's not like we already have Kaidan or Jacob to fill the exact same role.

Is this really needed? We have five squad members from the original ME, and ten additional ones from ME2. Even if some of them cannot return due to storyline reasons (specifically Wrex), and even if the DLC characters Kasumi and Zaeed are discounted, that leaves us with a good dozen potential squad members. Do we really need a new one, especially such an unimaginative model? At least give us something new, like a Hanar (Blasto!), or an Elcor...

//Edit: so yeah, he is probably the Quarter Back/Wide Reciever Bioware wanted to put in. Guess who will be kept out of all my missions except for the loyalty one (if those are in ME3), just like Jacob in ME2?

Mass Effect meets Jersey Shore!!!

I sure hope he's one of the characters you can conveniently get killed or something...

Ok, that wasn't fair, maybe he'll be a decent guy and have some good writing behind him. But I really don't see any point to taking him along when the alien teammates are just so much more interesting...

He has potential.

Sure, he looks like a jock but as long as they give him a bit more personality then your standard space marine he could be a very interesting character.

It'd be especially cool if he was a gay love interest, at least if it's done right.

Has the potential to be a great multidimensional character but also has the potential to be yet another space marine. We'll have to wait and see.

Hmmm remember when Bioware said there would be no new cast members...but...male Shep would finally have a gay love interest. If they aren't going to re-con Kaidan (dammit! >_<) or Jacob....then...

New male cast member announced out of no where...

*ponders*

I have a hunch.

If he's like Jayne from Firefly, then I'm all for it.
That might work. Like, really well. His gorrila-like looks would only make it more funny.

Yeap, here's to hoping he's a parody of the stereotypical "ooh rah" 'roid-head.

Heh, I was going to say:

"Hmm, Space Soap. I wonder if there will be a No Turian level"
-Tavish....NINJA'ED!

Well, you can clearly see who this guy is meant to appeal to and who he represents. I'll most likely ignore him till the last mission.
Then I'll volunteer him for "Operation Certain Death".

Then again...perhaps he can be our "Public Relations" officer instead...

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. This is Mass Effect: if you're not interested in a character, don't take them with you. Jacob only ever set foot outside the Normandy for his loyalty mission in both my playthroughs.

Besides, we shouldn't underestimate BioWare's knack for getting you emotionally invested in unlikely characters: I doubt anyone could've predicted that Jack had such a poignant backstory, or that we'd see Legion in a completely different line based on three little words (you can probably guess which ones...)

I'm going to wait until I know more about him before I decide anything. But I still probably won't use him in my party much.

Not bashin on gays, but I really hope this isn't the case.
... why? If you don't roll a gay Shepard it won't come up (GET IT?!).

OT: Probably not a bad idea to have somewhere there for exposition purposes. The series could do with some.

I'm hoping they're going more for a cool guy persona instead of a Hoo-Rah persona. Because if the latter is the case, there really is no hope for Mass Effect 3.
Am I reading this right: So if there's a character you don't like the whole game is ruined
The entirety of my point would be way too lengthy so I won't bother. But, I didn't mean that what you think I meant ^^

OK, I know I don't know anything about this character but from mass effects track record on human, male characters, and the fact that the picture makes him look like a douchebag (just my opinion)I'm pissed that we get this instead of wrex (considering the rest of the original squad mates are returning), why introduce a new character at this late stage, I understand the whole getting a fresh perspective on things but I would personally prefer to have Wrex or Jack or Thane back, you know one of the characters we already like.

stop stereotyping guys. That's like thinking Vin Diesel doesn't play D&D because he always plays tough guys in movies.

If the character was a strong woman or possibly non-white character, Id probably dislike them and bring out a whole host of stereotypical assumptions based on his/her race and gender. But then Id probably get chastised by a bunch of hypocrites under those circumstances.

Largely Im completely apathetic. Its just some heavily muscled guy with armour thats a little too bulky for my tastes when it comes to mass effect.

Of course, since the Cerberus troops have something similar Bioware obviously want to include stupid power armour into the mass effect universe. Kinda defeats the purpose when theyre happy to trot out the old "mass effect shield" defense when certain characters are wearing what amounts to tissue paper, but whatever.

Hopefully Ill find some things interesting about him, regardless of whether I ultimately like or "hate" him. (Im talking Ashley style "hate" here, where its just a really good character with their own beliefs and opinions and where you can both appreciate "hating" and learn to like). I dont want to end up staying "apathetic" when I learn about him in game though, like I did with a large chunk of the ME2 squad.

If nothing else Ill be interested to see how he interacts with some of my favourite characters already confirmed to be squadmates. But yeah, ultimately Im prepared to "wait and see".
