So its 3/11 today and im now 17 years old......and japan has been hit by a 8.9 earthquake. It seems that my birthday strikes again. Just look at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_11

At least I don't have my sisters B-day....9/11. So escapists, what interesting things have happened on your Birthday.

I was born, I don't know about you but I find that pretty interesting.

Aside from that not much, its usually just a nice spring day. Unless I am in Utah, It seems to snow on my birthday overtime I am in that state. Oh and I did get deployed to Iraq on my 21st birthday.

Duke Nukem Forever will be released the day I turn 20, and last year the British had elections.

Don't recall much aside from that.

My Grandpa's 40th birthday was when Mt. Saint Helens erupted. Not much for my birthday, but in a couple years it we be Mardi Gra.

Nothing disastrous while I've been alive. The first entry in the list though:

* 1287 ? St. Lucia's flood: The Zuider Zee sea wall in the Netherlands collapses, killing over 50,000 people.

Anyone else think that this thread was going to be about a gay porno?

*reads OP*

Ooooooooh, I get it! 6/6/2002 ? A near-Earth asteroid estimated at 10 metres diameter explodes over the Mediterranean Sea between Greece and Libya. The resulting explosion is estimated to have a force of 26 kilotons, slightly more powerful than the Nagasaki atomic bomb.

Wicked... it's sad for anything that might have lived on the asteroid I guess...

My moms birthday too...

Lord Haw Haw was sentenced to death on my birthday... and in 2006 the Thai military staged a Coup, took over Bangkok and enforced Martial Law...

March 5th

1496 - King Henry VII of England issues letters patent to John Cabot and his sons, authorizing them to explore unknown lands.
-This is very cool, as it was John Cabot who eventually sailed across the Atlantic and rediscovered what is now North America and landed here at my home province Newfoundland.

1836 - Samuel Colt makes the first production-model revolver, the .34-caliber.
-If you're a fan of Supernatural, or a gun aficionado, then this is pretty neat.

1912 - Italian forces are the first to use airships for military purposes, employing them for reconnaissance behind Turkish lines.

1933 - Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party receives 43.9% at the Reichstag elections. This later allows the Nazis to pass the Enabling Act and establish a dictatorship.
-This: Not so good.

1940 - Members of Soviet politburo sign an order for the execution of 25,700 Polish intelligentsia, including 14,700 Polish POWs, known also as the Katyn massacre.
-This is just depressing.

1946 - Winston Churchill uses the phrase "Iron Curtain" in his speech at Westminster College, Missouri.
-It's a term still used today when talking about the Soviet Union, so that's pretty cool.

1960 - Cuban photographer Alberto Korda took his iconic photograph of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara.

1970 - The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty goes into effect after ratification by 43 nations.
-Unless you really want to live in the Fallout universe, then this is a good thing.

1975 - First meeting of the Homebrew Computer Club
-The founders included "Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak... [and] Jerry Lawson, creator of the first cartridge-based video game system and the only African-American member of the club." How cool is that?

I looked up my birthday, 24th March and found a connection. As well as sharing a birthday with a couple of American wrestlers, one of whom is The Undertaker, and Nena (German pop star), I also share a birthday with the late Steve McQueen.

Also, on that day in 1944, the escape from Stalag Luft III began. This was the escape dramatised in the film The Great Escape in which the aforementioned Mr. McQueen esq. starred.

Other nifty stuff includes: (cut 'n' pasted from Wikipedia)

1882 ? Robert Koch announces the discovery of mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium responsible for tuberculosis.

1896 ? A. A. Popov makes the first radio signal transmission in history.

1900 ? Mayor of New York City Robert Anderson Van Wyck breaks ground for a new underground "Rapid Transit Railroad" that would link Manhattan and Brooklyn.

1965 ? NASA spacecraft Ranger 9, equipped to convert its signals into a form suitable for showing on domestic television, brings images of the Moon into ordinary homes before crash landing.

There's a lotta bad shit happened on March 24th too but considering that there's a lot of bad shit going on right now, it feels somewhat churlish to bring it up!

According to Wikipedia, on the 25th of January [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_25] the Egyptian revolution of 2011 began.

Huh. I had no idea it began on that day, thought it was a few days later...

I could still remember my seventh birthday...it was at burger king and only one friend came....i was so sad....

But in terms of the day lets name 3 things that happened: it was 1911 when italy declared war on the ottman empire,
1941 ? World War II: Holocaust in Kiev, Ukraine: German Einsatzgruppe C begins the Babi Yar massacre, according to the Einsatzgruppen operational situation report. which makes me sad because i am quarter ukraine, and a lot of disasters.
