Overview
For those unfamiliar with text RPG on forums, the process is simple and painless. I will write a portion of the story ending with a few options for the character to choose from. Those participating in the game will post their vote, and are free to discuss the merits/drawbacks of each option. The story will be dark in tone, with themes drawing from both horror and mystery.
Fair Warning
It will be extremely possible for a choice or series of choices to result in the death of the protagonist. I do promise, however, that there will be no "trick options". So If you choose the option to eat a candy bar, It won't spontanously become poisonous and end the story. However, if the candy bar was poisoned at some point previously in the story (Even three or four chapters previously, with no mention since) the character will die.
About developing Bishop as the protagonist
The story begins with a rather cliché case of amnesia. This is not just a tired way to immediately create dramatic tension, it also gives us a chance to completely build the protagonist?s personality from the ground up. As such, as more and more decisions are made I will use them to mold Bishop's actions between voting. IE, if the violent and brazen type of behavior is the one that continuously is chosen, Bishop will become more violent and brazen even during the portions in which his actions are not dictated by popular vote.
New Chapters will be added in roughly one to three day intervals, with longer intervals given to voting for bigger decisions and shorter ones for lesser decisions. Let's get started.
<spoiler=Introduction>
Rain beat a steady tempo upon the man's hat, sliding from its brim and dripping to the floor. His suit and tie was heavy with the stuff, causing his skin to raise bumps and the hair on his neck to stand up. He had been sitting at the park bench for several hours now, with a look of bewildered frustration upon his face. Occasionally his eyes would dart back down to the now soaked business card which had been in his hand when he first opened his eyes and found himself seated in the rain. The business card, illegible now, had read Bishop, Risk Management in a stylish embossed font. He had felt a strange fondness for the card, and one of the few things he knew about his current circumstances was that he was abysmally disappointed the card had been ruined.
He looked over the park in front of him, and as he did so one of his gloved hands instinctively dropped into his inner suit pocket. Inside, much to his surprise, he felt some oblong shape. Drawing it out, he examined it. It was a cruelly serrated folding knife, the blade almost as long as the distance from the bottom of his palm to the tip of his middle finger. Dried blood, being made wet by the rain, began to soften and flake from the blade.
The man sighed, adjusting his hat with his free hand upon his head, and stowing the weapon back into his coat pocket. Behind him he heard the schlup of a boot sinking into a puddle, and his heart began to beat unnaturally fast. Adrenaline surged through his body and he swiveled instantly, his hand dropping into the pocket of his jacket and clutching the knife.
Across from him stood a tall, pale man in a black suit, tie and hat very much like his own. A few white bangs had snuck below the brim of the man's hat and lazily draped across his forehead. One of his eye brows was cocked inquisitively, and he said in a cold, high pitched voice "Mister Bishop, I presume?"
Thinking quickly, the man responded.
1) Play along with the pale man's assumption. (Cooperative Tone)
2) Play along with the pale man's assumption. (Hostile Tone)
3) Play along with the pale man?s assumption. (Cutting sarcasm)
4) Admit to remembering nothing. (Cooperative Tone)
5) Admit to remembering nothing. (Hostile Tone)
I'll count votes for this first choice and post the first chapter, so to speak, In either 8 hours or tomorrow evening. Happy playing, I hope you enjoy it. Remember to vote by simply commenting, and feel free to use the thread to argue in favor of or against certain actions. PM me if you have any suggestions or complaints, and if you have praise feel free to post that in the thread. It will encourage me to continue.
