I never knew they had the map backwards. Interesting.
But wow, show a little more compasion for Chernobyle would ya? OK I laughed a bit but still.
To have your mind blown, consider that they don't know that you have your map backwards.

What do you mean "backwards"? The world map was centered on Japan, but was the correct way around.

Thats actually very clever and I applaud the Japanese for explaining to the kids in a manner they'll understand, while providing some hope and reassurance to them too.

Western version would probably not bother explaining to younger members of the populous what was going on and just have the words "PANIC!!!!!!!!" flashing on the screen 24 hours a day.
Duck....and cover! That's what you do when an atomic blast happens, don't you remember?

And I don't see why we can't just hit Nuclear Boy with a Mikuru beam.

lol, the best parts were when he was calling Chernobyl diarrhea that ran all over the place, and there at the end where he's like "It still won't be as bad as Chernobyl!"

Actually seems like a pretty good way to communicate what's going on to small children, with a situation and some terms they can understand and relate to on some level. Kind of takes the fear out of it as well, who knows, they might even try to calm down the adults.

In any case, it's probably hard to explain a looming potential nuclear disaster more gently than this...

I can totally see the scarred children of the Fukushima 50 refusing to poop for weeks because of this video.

Americans took a large 'poop' on nagasaki and hiroshima back in ww2. They're still crapping all over the world.

You know, the word "Japanophile", or "weeaboo", is thrown around just as often as the word "troll", or "noob", but that's a prime example of Japan-o-philia.

Anyways, i didn't really like their references to Chernobyl, and the "reassurance" thing was pretty bad. "At the worst, it won't be as bad as Chernobyl". That's like saying "at the worst, we might not have too bad an apocalypse". Still, it taught me about what's going on, so who's to judge?

Pity @extracredits didn't have this last week; it's exactly what they were talking about in Tangential Learning. Japan may be a totally bizarre place, but they've been doing things their way for a long time - and often they're better at it than we are.

Try to explain a Chip Sandwich to them one time and see how they look at you.

What is this I don't even...

OT: Even with a nuclear disaster on their hands, Japan still finds time to make bizarre toons. You'd think they'd be more serious.

Weeaboo, not heard that one in years, but be that as it may, most of us know that its true.

Honestly, I understand it better now. The most depth I've heard an American news show go into has been "It may melt down, or it may not."

Actually the duck and cover thing seems to be the only other real example of "trying to explain this to the kids" everything else like the 9/11 thing is usually just everyone freaking out and not informing anyone on anything other than there feelings on it. I've seen the duck and cover footage too. Aside from not being a real solution to the problem it did a reasonable job at least telling someone what to do in the event of the worst. Personally this video being the master of metaphors like it is, is not how I would have done it.

just great
and now that the kids understand what's going it only leaves the adults

would somebody please educate them in the same way
i'm telling everybody since the beginning that the bad poo won't fly because nuclear boy has a special diaper
but still they are to stupid to grasp it and still spread the panic

this crisis really has brought out everything i hate in the normal uneducated human that makes the vast majority of this world
