Ultimately it's coming to the UK because shops want more of this:

As Tippy pointed out though, I don't see the problem considering none of us are obliged to go out to the shops on this particular day.

We have it here in Canada now as well. I'm not bothered by it. No one is holding a gun to my head, making me go out and shop. Don't like it? Don't go.

What about for those who work in retail and those stores?

From my experience in Black Friday retail in my part of Canada, it's not a big deal.

So far as I've seen, there has been no significant markdown to drive that many people to come. A couple of electronic items are ordered to sell on that day so a wider variety of things are listed as on sale but honestly, I don't think there was a single big ticket item on sale for more than 15-25% off.

It's just another sale day with a name for us.

Why is everyone complaining? Capitalism has been around for centuries; this kind of thing was inevitable.

That doesn't mean that this kind of thing isn't ludicrous (and not in a good way) or that we want it to become a worldwide phenomenon.

Condolences to the OP. I hope it'll take a while for it to reach us here in cold, distant Scandinavia. Then I'm ready for a shooting rampage.
