So, almost done with Black Lagoon: Second Barrage, and something has been bugging me since episode 1, and I'm curious what you all think. So: in the theme song, there's a few moments where Remmy is completely different from her character on screen. She does this cutesly pose with tongue out that I'm pretty sure if you even suggested to the Remmy in the show that she should do, I think she would kill you. So, anyone else bothered by this radically out of character moment?

Now that that's out of the way, who is you're favorite character from black lagoon, and what's your favorite moment from the show. I'm sure this thread will attract some people who haven't finished or even started the anime yet, so when in doubt, use spoiler tags.

Guess I should put my own answers to those questions. My favorite character is actually Roc, and my favorite moment
where they ramp the boat off that wrecked ship and shove a torpedo into that helicopter's face. Brilliant.

Damn. Ninja'd in the OP. That was my favorite moment also. I can't remember exactly what the line is right before impact but I remember laughing historically.

Also, my favorite character is Dutch. He's such a boss and you never get to see his eyes behind those sunglasses... mysterious.

I never got around to watching all of the OVAs. Did they ever finish them? They were pretty good so far (I think I saw up to part 4).

I didn't notice any OVAs, I watched the first season, and the second season, titled Black Lagoon: second Barrage, and apparently they've just started releasing the third season because there's only 2 episodes in that, and I'm hoping to watch those later today.

3rd Season? Well damn, I guess they did finish the OVAs. They were about the Maid chick and they took place after the 2nd season I believe.

If you mean Roberta's story, it simply ends with the status quo. Despite some interesting and in some cases drastic developments, it might just as well not have happened at all. In the end everyone is back in the same spot the began at the end of season two.

Anyway, my favourite character is definately Balalaika. She's fucking tough as nails and her apprearance immediately demands your attention and respect, but she still has this classiness to her. I freaking love her.

My favourite moment is during the psycho twins chapter where the last surviving twin is being transported out of the city by Black Lagoon and Rock is kinda babysitting her. And when he hears about all the horrific things these kids have been through he hugs her and genuinely tries to comfort her and tell her that not all of the world is like that. She even seems positively effected by this gesture at first, but then it immediately turns dark again. It was just so tragic to see Rock try and reach whatever humanity this kid had left inside her, but that it was simply all gone due to years of abuse and torture.

The OVA series is only available in Subbed right now, the English dubbed version only exists for the first two seasons right now. But if you were watching subbed first, then you have nothing to worry about.

My favorite character(s) have to be both Revy and Balalaika. Both are females whom command powerful respect and authority (well, Revy is somewhat forced respect, but you get the point), and both tend to outshadow the "main" protagonist Rock quite often. Also, can kick some serious fucking ass and both have developed characters in which describe how they both act quite well. Rock would be on the list with them, but I honestly never felt like he actually fit in with the rest of them until almost the end of season 2 (after Yukio chastises him for his reasons for attempting to "save her"). And even then, Rock was annoyingly still acting even less piratey than Benny was! I still think he should have stolen a kiss from Revy too at some point, they were both asking for it..

And I think we can all agree that Chaka has to be the worst, most unlikable character in the entire series. I rooted for his death by Revy or someone else from the very first encounter in the hotel hallway.

Best episode/moment? Definitely the stuff involving the "vampire" twins, and the escape vehicle scene during the "Guerilla's in the Jungle" episode. The driver baked on weed driving at those speeds and all the shit he is screaming out along the way.. oh god, lol! The first example was just plain depressing on a nothing-can-ever-fix-them tragic villains story level, while the second one was just plain awesome.

..Anyways, sorry for the slight ranting, I just finished the series up to the OVA myself. Still waiting for the english dubbed version of the OVA to finish it off. Same with Hellsing OVA 10! >_<

That's pretty much the purpose of Rock though. He's the fish-out-of-water character for the audience to latch onto.

I know that, just I honestly felt more pulled in by the rest of Black Lagoon company due to their ability to ride the currents of the story to it's seedy ends, with Rock only luring me in with specific instances like trying to appeal to the "vampire" twins, or suggesting the torpedo boat/helicopter situation (being the intellectual mind). Otherwise, he was fighting against that same current for most of the seasons the show runs. I suppose I wanted him to become more of an Anakin-esque character, but without most of the whines he kept exhibiting for the world he chose to enter (or at least at some point in the story further in, like Yukio called him out on).

Hmm, favorite moment? One is the weird indirect kiss Rock and Revy had in episode after the neo-nazi arc. In terms of an action moment? When Revy and Ginji throw down. Unrealistic as all hell, but watching a dude with a sword nearly best the Two-Hands? Fucking glorious.

My favorite character is Mr. Chang, because he is clearly a young action-movie Chow Yun-Fat and I love those films. And because Mr. Chang is an utter badass beyond compare. Well, with the exception of Fry-face.

Also even better news for fans of the manga, there was a notice a while back that it is finally coming off hiatus. The writer is starting up the series again. I have no idea when we can expect to see new content, but apparently he's working on it after two years away.

Hm i never thought a great deal about it but Remmy does enjoy a good fight and her fighting with chinglish and the blond nun she loves it and i'm sure she even laughs, i could see her pulling that face before fighting them.

Also favrouite character... close call between the irish stoner driver who flew off to mars and never came back, or Balalika she one bad ass mudda fakka.

But they do turn that into a clever confrontation at the end.

Throughout the whole series Rock is presented as the sympathetic every man who might be able to add some TLC to these ruthless criminals, Revy in particular. But then that whole image changes when Yukio calls him out on the fact that he's using his position as the every man to criticize the world he has already become a part of. How he doesn't want to accept his fate and just sits in his ivory tower judging other people. That's what that final scene in the last episode signifies when Rock doesn't look away when "that" happens eventhough Revy tells him to; That he's now accepted his position in the world, and he'll no longer look away.

True enough, I suppose the meaning of that scene didn't quite click for me until I read your post just now. Thanks for that.

Favourite character: Balalaika and Benny, for opposite reasons.

Favourite moment: In that mini-season, when Roberta goes utterly apeshit. In particular, when she blocks a machete by catching it in her teeth and shattering the blade with her jaws.

Honestly love that scene :p really shows off just how bad ass and in control of things she is.

But i do love the hilarity of the irish stoner driver absolutley out his head blazing through the jungle in a van talking complete bollacks to boot, but his driving is completely insane and amazing.

Revy: "Are you the getaway driver?

Leigharch: "No, I'm a fuckin' lawyer, what d'you think?"
