What you sir call frustrating game mechanics were the norm in the FPS genre before the influx of Call of Duty games. They are not broken nor perfect, they are different and it needs a little getting used to. For starters, when the commandos shoot you, you move.

And still, HL1 is fun and Black Mesa is not...

Overall, Black Mesa's is one of the best ''remakes'' of all time. The game is truly a masterpiece, living up to the quality of the original Half-Life, even though i've never played the original. I do think though that the enemies are pretty hard to beat, even in normal mode, which makes the game sometimes more frustrating than challenging. Besides that, it's probably the best game i have played in my whole time as a gamer
