Black Ops 2 PS3 Code Error Frustrates Players

Activision Support is aware of the problem with some PS3 DLC codes but hasn't got a solution yet.

As launches go, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 release has had its share of problems, what with some PC players getting Mass Effect 2 discs [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120628-Black-Ops-2-Disc-Mixup-Can-Get-You-Mass-Effect-Trilogy] in their package; but PS3 players now have something to complain about. In some instances, Hardened and Care Package editions - the really expensive versions with the extra bells and whistles - may not have working DLC codes.

Activision knows about the problem but doesn't have any solution yet. "We are working on resolution," Activision Tweeted [https://twitter.com/ATVIAssist/status/268546075101646849]. "Thank you." Blame was first put on overworked servers, but it soon became clear that the problem ran deeper than that, as customers began reporting that their DLC codes could not be input. This means no Nuketown arena match for them, or Nuketown zombies for that matter, and this right before the double XP launch weekend.

The problem has only been reported on Hardened and Care Package editions so far, and there's no way to know exactly what's causing it. "So I have just called Sony network support," said one poster on the via Twitter [http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/Call-of-Duty/cant-redeem-nuketown-2025-code/td-p/17470536/page/12] if they are experiencing trouble.

Not that long ago, Activision Blizzard published its quarterly results. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120545-Activision-Blizzard-Enjoys-Better-Than-Expected-Third-Quarter] At the time, CEO Robert Kotick claimed that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 would be "one of the most successful launches of any form of entertainment in history." It may yet prove to be a financial success, but calling the launch one of the most successful in history may have been jumping the gun.

Ever get the feeling someone took a look at the key generator and sold them for profit?
If game discs fall off trucks in the night, why can't usb stick disappear into the ether too.

Alternatively, check out DLC codes on Ebay and see what I'm on about...

Whatever, just wash your hands.
They have been releasing cod games yearly for like the last 6 or 7 years. How the hell do they keep fucking up the launches like this. Seems like its stuff like this or buggy multi or some other problem.

Agreed. For example, every Bethesda game seems to be better on other platforms with little to no repairs or patches for the PS3. It's quite sad. Hopefully they fix this as this will definitely impact people buying it on the PS3.

No mention of this bullshit multiplayer "error"message then?

Thats pissed me off, decide to give CoD another go after a few years away and I can't.even join any games. I'm just left with a £40 mug coaster now.

Think the moral of the story is you should have stayed away from the CoD x.x The universe is screaming at you "No, NO, STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRAP!"

Why do I get the feeling Activision planned this and that in a day or two they'll announce that they can't fix it but they're throwing the DLC up for a $1 or something just to wring a little extra money out of people.

I just cant face these games anymore. I haven't bought a COD since the Black Ops and I skipped WAW, ditto for the last three Assassins creeds.

Not that they are bad games, far from it I just cannot be doing with fluffed launches anymore. That and I need to whittle down mt current games list.

On the plus side I just finished Sleeping Dogs so that's getting traded!

Blacks ops 2 has locked up my ps3 5 times in the past 24 hours. 3 times whilst in a hectic game of zombies and twice while it was simply at the main menu doing NOTHING!!

I really think the devs should be totally ashamed of themselves but there probably sitting there with there millions saying "yup, we did it again, another success".

So it was the code for the Nuketown zombies? Cause the Hardened and Care Package editions had those exclusively.
Oh, and there's also the fact that playing Blops 2 on the PS3 is nearly impossible, what with the glitched rooms with matches that never start and the random host migration.
I understand they're only human and mistakes are made and stuff. But...come on, everyone and their cousin bought Blops 2 so...this shouldn't be happening.

Don't they often dissolve teams and build new ones from parts of other teams? I can't expect we'd see much if they're just churning things out for fast cash anyway.

At least in this case I doubt coding for multiple systems had anything to do with DLC codes being screwed up.

Maybe they should focus a bit more on making sure everything works before releasing it instead of rushing a new game out every year :D

Almost feel bad for the PS3 players, almost.

This is the interesting thing. All the PS3 gamers blame the devs for the games not working. "whaaaa Bethesda are idiots!" "Treyarch don't care about the PS3"

Yet it never occurs to the PS3 owners that perhaps it's the PS3 which is the problem. It's not some massive global conspiracy made by all the development companies to specifically target and screw over the PS3 audience...it's just the fact that the PS3 just is a pain in the ass to develop for. For anyone with half a brain; if a dozen games are not working well on your console you'd blame the console. But PS3 owners will blame everything (including Al Qaeda) other than the actual PS3 hardware.

PS3 owners appear utterly incapable of accepting the fact that the PS3 just isn't great for devs. And NO dev is going to remake an entire game just for the PS3. They'll port it, sure, but they wont make an entirely new game. Where's the financial sense in that?

Do PS3 owners expect the following?; "Hey, we just spent millions of dollars and years of work making Skyrim for the PC and Xbox...now lets go back to the drawing board and make it from scratch for the PS3"

I really do feel for PS3 owners. I'd be pissed off too if all my most anticipated games didn't work. I'd be extremely pissed off! But the fact of the matter is; the PS3 sucks.

So when PC users blame devs for shitty ports, they must accept their platform sucks ass too?
That its hard as hell to develop for? And sucks development money?
So there is a double standard for consumer rights because of the platform?
Nice logic there.
Oh and anyone with half a brain would say the devs didn't work hard enough, to fix game breaking bugs.

The PC is a different kettle of fish entirely. Most PC gamers know (or should know) that the PC can be a ***** to develop for. There are so many hundreds, if not thousands of varieties of systems out there and the devs need to try and cater as best they can for as many as possible.

PC gamers generally complain when the port doesn't take into account the fact that it is a PC. It's not uncommon to get a port which hasn't even attempted to cater for the standard Keyboard/Mouse combo. But PC Gamers are somewhat blessed with the fact that their platform allows them to fix a lot of problems themselves without needing to wait for the devs to sort things out.
In the majority of cases, when a game doesn't work on a PC it's because your PC is actually crap and is just not good enough to run the game.

But despite all these thousands of potential problems developing for the PC, on the whole, it still works. The hardware on the standard PC seems to cope well enough with games (which are often just Xbox ports)

Unfortunately for PS3 users, the PS3 seems fairly incapable of running a port. It needs heavy reworking to get the game running at an even half decent level.
Lets face it, the PS3 has serious hardware issues. I'll bring up the Silent Hill 2 HD port which was released last year. The water effects are actually BETTER on the PS2 version. Apparently the PS3 couldn't handle water effects as well as the PS2 did.
To be fair, Konami did a pretty poor job on both PS3 and Xbox HD releases, but yet again the PS3 suffered the most and yet again the blame was put on hardware which just was too hard to work with.

Now when you have dozens of major development teams all saying the EXACT SAME THING, surely it must twig that perhaps the PS3 really does have hardware issues and that perhaps it really is difficult to make a working game on that platform.

I know that for someone who has shelled out their hard earned cash on a PS3 it must be heartbreaking to be told that you're going to get a buggy game compared to other platforms, but that doesn't mean you should put your fingers in your ears and pretend that the problem is not with your console but is in fact caused by every developer in the world hating YOU.

But hey...at least you never bought a Wii.
