It might've escaped your notice (if you live under a rock) that bobby kotick has done a few things that made me not want to buy any of his games, because i don't want to encourage him in that behaviour (you know, don't feed the troll).
The problem is, i liked pretty much every call of duty game i played and with black ops around the corner, I find myself facing a tough decision. do I buy the game and have a great time with it (cause from what i've seen, it's looking pretty damn good) or do I cling to my morals and not give my money to dr. evil, missing out on a potentially great game.
Does it really matter if I don't buy it? we all know it's going to sell like crazy...
Do i want kotick to be the cause of me missing out on a good game?
If I buy it (or don't buy it) not only do i (not) support kotick, but also treyarch, who have done nothing to aggravate me.
I really do want the game, but i don't want to support kotick and what other way do i have to get to him, if isn't not giving him my money?

So I ask you, escapist, not what should I do (I can make my own mind up, thanks) but what would/will you do?
Not just concerning black ops, but concerning any game you like/are looking forward to, published or developed by people you dislike.

One person not buying a game will not hurt Bobby Kotick. If you want the game, just buy it. All that matters is that you want it.

I am reminded of the 'one vote doesn't matter' thing... if everyone says that, he's not going to be hurt at all, is he?

I'm with you brother. I have seriously contemplated not purchasing Black Ops for this very reason. Sure one game won't make the difference but now there are two of us and I imagine that there are more than just your and I. Such is how nations are overthrown.

To be honest? You buying that game or not has nothing to do with Kotick. He will get paid anyway. It's not him making those games, he is just a CEO of a company that publishes them. Even if the game sells poorly the first people to get hurt by it is the studio that actually developed it and not him.

You enjoy the game you buy it. Why does it matter what name stands far far behind it?

you make a fair point, it won't directly affect his salary, but surely the activision board will fire him when they realize he's costing them money...

*Insert comment about CoD not having been particularly interesting since the second, and about how perplexing it is that games with such broken multiplayers are considered to be the best in their field*

OT: If you really want it then buy it. I haven't bought anything by Activision in ages, but then they do keep releasing the same drivel every year.

Oh he didn't become CEO not knowing how to handle such things. It's easy to blame poor sales on studio. And really, apart form the fact the man speaks nonsense every now and then what have he done to you? Since you are interested in Black Ops he apparently publishes games you like so what is the problem?

I 'boycott' Activision because they don't have any games in their offer that i'd consider interesting. Just like i boycott political parties in my country by drawing flowers on the voting cards so i count into the pool of active voters but no one gets my vote because neither provided a program that i could agree with.

Lately it seems people are hating on publisher's just cause it's 'kewl' to do so.

Buy used. You still get a great game and you get to give Kotick the finger.

true, 2 was extremely awesome (and still is a joy at lanparties), but i had fun with the last three as well. sure, they've got issues, but nobody's perfect. what would you consider to be the best in their field then?

Perfect. Grab one off a person who doesn't want Black Ops anymore.

OT: That's a tough decision. I went back and played the original Call of Duty games and they were great. Maybe not perfect, because some parts made my eyes burn, but generally acceptable and above average. Get it if you want it.

I don't really play multiplayer shooters, but I've played the MW2 multiplayer and MW's and if that's the best there is you may as well hang yourself if that's all you (not you specifically) play.

They're glitch-ridden, poorly-balanced and full of (for want of a better word) cunts. And the matchmaking is totally shit - I'm pretty sure it's not totally necessary to pause the bloody game whilst it searches for a new host.

Common practice for whichever company is developing the latest iteration seems to be to just add shit without balancing stuff at all.

I'm dutch and i don't think there's a gamestop around here, so very little opportunity to buy used around here. but i'll look into it.

that is true. maybe i'll just get the game and wait for him to annoy the board so much they'll fire him no matter how much dosh he brings in ;)
I'm not hating publishers because it's cool though, I dislike him because I think he's a jerk and a retard. though I wonder how he got to where he is if he's so incredibly dumb as he seems to be... ah well...
I think i can honestly claim not to be part of the hating because it's cool crowd. remember how halo 3, WaW and MW2 were hated? never did that either. I know they've all got problems, but I never hated any of them.

nice one with the flower by the way, but don't you guys have 'blank' options on your voting cards?

Nah but can turn in a card without marking any name. Flowers just seemed more fun back when i started doing it. It was either flowers of offensive images so i went with a tame version just in case they would want to track me down.

Mm, I'd just buy it. He's a jackass, if we really want to hurt him maybe we should hire out the nice folks at /b/ to...you know...get to him.
