I have played most of the Call Of Duty games with the exception of the Modern Warfare ones. I frankly love the games, this is partially due to the fact that I am a history student and love playing games with a historical basis. I am debating as to whether or not I should get black ops. I am not interested so much in the multi player, more so the single player campaign. I am just wondering how the historical accurate black ops is in comparison to other games like world at war, and such. Can someone whose played the game and knows a bit about the time period tell me how historically accurate it is?

The game's storyline is nothing like Call of Duty 1-3 (or WaW). It's a character-driven storyline that has roots in history but really just does its own thing. I'm sure the equipment and weapons are historically accurate, but as far as the campaign goes, it's all pretty much just fiction.

Russian mind powers?...Fuck yeah, that happened!?

Umm, I'm not sure. I never really done alot of looking into the Cold war, so I can't really say. Though, from what I've played...it might loosely be based on some events...that might have been "Slightly" blown out of proportion...

erm...first of all, if your considering getting black ops for the single player, you will find it lacking; i beat my cousin's copy in an afternoon. secondly, its about as historically accurate as sinking hitler's volcano fortress.

and thirdly, the CoD you knew is dead, because its ALL about multiplayer now.

No, right up to the very end cutscene, it's not accurate, just pure fantasy.

Lawl. Not even.

Things have just gone downhill since the heat-seeking(!) AT4 and the heartbeat sensor.

The lack of ability to quick scope is historically accurate. XD

I guess they took liberties with the story to make it more than just a recap of events from a first person perspective.

I don't think they were going for an historically accurate game. That doesn't mean it isn't good though.

Not accurate in the slightest.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask someone who has the game, so maybe someone can help me out.
In multiplayer, can you put words on your weapons like in the commercial?

I want to put the words "Aequitas" and "Veritas" on two akimbo 1911's.

Yes, this actually happened (and it was AWESOME) [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T4GC-V57sw]. As for the rest of the game....naaaahhhh

There are zombies. That's all you need to know about the new Call of Duty games.

Most of the people who like the original Call of Duty games don't like the new ones and that's for a reason.

The Saints didnt use M1911's they used buretas (Spelling?) the best thing to use would be the ASP.

OT: Its inspired by true events. Blown well out of proportion (I'm talking hydrogin bomb blown) but thats about it

It's true in the sense that there was a Bay of Pigs invasion and we did fight a war in Vietnam. Everything else, pretty much fiction.

Its about as accurate as the first level of Battlefield Bad Company. Set in a real place with real events going on, but completely tossing that aside and do something else.

It's as accurate as a Bond movie.

I'm a History student myself. And to think Black Ops is anything even remotely close to being historically accurate is fantasy by itself.

Not in the slightest. It's sort of like Forrest Gump, as in while the much of the setting is based on real events and/or locations, the events in the game never happened at all.

Hell, even the equipment isn't historically accurate. I mean, in one level you use a SPAS-12, a shotgun that was never manufactured until 1978. And might I add, this level takes place in 1968. That and for some reason the game thinks that one could obtain and use a FAMAS (not produced until 1978), an AKs-74u (not produced until 1979), or a Styer AUG (not produced until 1978) in the late 60's. That, and the game seems to also think that Soviet Mil-24 Hind helicopters operated in Vietnam in the late 60's (the first operational Hinds were not put into action until 1974). Then you factor in the oddball idea that one could obtain a prototype H&K G11 caseless rifle in the late 60's...

Yeah, I think my point has been made.

That lip syncing was worse than an anime dub.
