Do you mean the multi?, well to practise for an upcoming sequel such as a CoD game you should really play the older game without any bonus perks or class abilities unlocked, basically go for stripped out pistol user to get use to the controls without the crutch of your favourite perk.

It eases the transition from game to game because your honing your base skills, not exploiting a bonus you've gotten used too. You can then build on that for the new game once it comes out.

At least learning sniping is actually an art now. On the considerably smaller maps if you can actually find a decent overwatch spot to lay down and not be spawned on top of, you deserve them sniping medals.

Its why I if I want to use the sniper rifles I stick on an ACOG scope rather than proper scopes. You might as well use them as battle rifles.
I have found Jungle and Array to be good sniping maps, on the odd occasion, Havana is good as well.

Black Ops? Learning curve? That's a good one, OP!

Also the "first to start shooting wins" principle applies.

I wouldn't say there's a learning curve, but I also played a lot of BC2 before buying BlackOps and the transition was kindoff hard. Didn't take too long though, but the spawning system is severely broken on small maps. You can't stand still for a second without someone spawning behind you and getting a quick kill (I'm looking at YOU, Nuketown).

I like to be a recon in BC2 as well, and while poeple have been going on and on about how the sniping is nerfed or gimped or whatever in BlackOps, but I find it doesnt matter, because none of the maps are big enough to snipe anyway. At least MW2 had Wasteland, Highrise and Estate. The maps are to crowded or small.
