Okay so I've just dug up a collection of old PSP games I own to transfer them onto the memory stick and found a copy of Field Commander which I'd picked up bu never got round to playing. I was actually looking forward to getting round to playing it. I loved the old Advance Wars games and figured that a clone of that without all the talking heads and bit more of a gritty style would be perfect. After popping the disk in I was filled with horror to discover the talking heads, godawful plot (the 'black hole army' are now the 'shadow nation', really?) and frustrating game breaking powers literally copy pasted onto the UMD. Not only that but the grainy bland art-style had actually made it worse!
Well okay, one game proved to be a bit of a failure on the old copy someones idea but make it your own but the next game ended up being Hot Pixel. Again not bad an idea. I loved Wario Ware and the same concept done with Atari classics couldn't be all bad. Plus it would be nice to play a mini-game compilation with buttons again for a change. I boot up the game in and dear god.....a copy paste of Wario Ware made worse by a horrible, HORRIBLE attempt to make the concept more 'street' and 'hip'.
There's plenty of bloody awful game clones out there but does anyone else know of any that actually had some good ideas that somehow ended up completely wrecking it?
