Blitz Games: Kinect Detractors Lack "Vision"

Blitz Games [http://www.blitzgames.com/] Chief Technical Officer Andrew Oliver says people who have been critical of the Kinect motion controller for the Xbox 360 just "don't have a vision."

developers [http://www.xbox.com/kinect]. But Blitz Games is with the program and Oliver suggested that people predicting doom and gloom simply refuse to see its potential.

"They don't have a vision," he told Edge [http://www.next-gen.biz/news/blitz-kinect-haters-%E2%80%9Cdont-have-a-vision%E2%80%9D]. "You have to see it up in front of people, and they play with it, and they have fun - it's exactly what happened with the Wii, but this takes it even one level further."

Blitz's recent catalog includes titles like yoostar2 [http://www.amazon.com/Karaoke-Revolution-Presents-American-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0010B3PWI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280941967&sr=1-1], motion-sensing controls are simply a better way to go.

"It's up to the software designers to make it obvious what you're doing. [yoostar2 is] a mirror, but behind you is going to be a famous scene and it's up to you to speak the line - so make the concepts easy," he explained. "You'll never get that from the controller. There will always be, 'You need to press this button, you need to press that button, you need to do this action'. And fundamentally, that's a bit of a blocker for a lot of people - they just instantly turn off."

Kinect hits store shelves on November 4.

So far I've seen some fucking tiger thing and Wii Kinect Sports.

Who're the people that lack imagination, you say?

give a year or two. Kinect will eventually work as advertised XD

Best of luck MS. you still haven't given me a good reason to drop $150 on what is essentially a camera.

Oh I have a vison, but my vison is this:

The game is not in the screen, but around you, you can smell, see, taste the world around you. No more chairs, no more game consoles.

Just you and that beautiful world.

That is my vison.

Oh, us critics have vision already. Visions of people looking like retards in their living rooms, playing gimmicky games that even put the Wii shovelware to shame, when we could just be enjoying the games that are actually WORTH a shit with a controller we feel more comfortable with, and get this, have more fun with.

Yeah Mr. Blitz dude, it may have some of this "innovation" i keep hearing about, but sometimes innovation just steers straight in the wrong direction. And I have a feeling this is one of those times. I felt the exact same way when this product was released as the eyetoy (i know they're different, but damn i can't help but feel a sense of deju vu here)

I've seen people play with it and they look like they're having seizures.

Ah yes, the old "You just don't understand our genius!" argument.
I think it is more of a "let us prove our genius" plea. When was the last console that had a stellar launch list? Wasn't it Mario and Duck Hunt?

Let's see, valid reasons why I should buy Kinect.

1. Errrrr, Ummmmmmm, Pie?
2. OH OH OH, I KNOW!, I CAN LOOK LIKE A RETARD!

Kinect is the WORST idea I've seen that contains motion sensors. The Wii and the Playstation Move *is that what it's still called?* are my limits for motion sensor games, because they have buttons, so it's not COMPLETELY a terrible idea. I mean, my brother has a voice activation device on his computer and doesn't use it at like all because you can easily do what you are thinking in a few clicks, rather then be a bum and tell it what to do and take half a century to do it well. That's the entire idea for controllers and such, it's to allow the player to make his actions as fast as possible to be put into the game.

Deary me, if I lack "vision" in the area of kinect then I'm quite fine with that, but the guy can still bugger off with kinect haha I wonder how many people will take offense at him saying all that jazz

Regardless of whether the Kinect is going to be awesomepants, this isn't a great way to win over the detractors.

A better way would be to simply make a good Kinect-enabled game. Duh.

I'm not going to say hes got no room to speak because hes developed nothing but complete shit.

I'm not going to say hes likely just talking out of his ass because he's on microsoft's payrole.

I'm going for his "vision." A virtual mirror in which a polygonal representation of you does... stuff in dioramas of famous scenes is not a video game. Its not even a toy. Its barely even a mirror. Its nothing. Its little more than a plug-in for webcam software. If thats the extent of his vision for the kinest, the kinest is truly and utterly void of any and all potential.

On another level, hes trying to say the kinest is a tool for the unimaginative. Can't imagine yourself doing something cool in a mirror, let our shitty "game" do it for you! Only $200!!

Right, okay. You say that I lack vision because I don't like Kinect? Fair enough.

Well then, Mr Oliver, I challenge you. Make a game that uses Kinect to the fullest, engages me, and draws me into the game, and I'll take back everything bad I've ever said about Kinect and personally send a letter of apology to Microsoft. Of course, it might be a bit of a tall order for a company that makes games like Bratz Girls Really Rock to make a game such as the one I've described, but hey, life is hard.

So far it's the only thing that could possibly convince me to buy Kinect, it's obviously in need of fine tuning but it does look interesting.
Or it could just be another Wii Force Unleashed disappointment.

In truth, not worth the extra money, but interesting none-the-less, I'd say.

Too true. Hard to say anyone else lacks vision, given their recent games. Bit ironic, really.

It's not that we lack vision, it's that YOU lack hindsight. Those who never learn history, are doomed to repeat it, and this is probably the best example I could ever think of for that phrase XD
