97 billion permutations doesn't mean there will be 97 billion viable builds.

I am, however, looking forward to the game.

Wondering if they calculated all possible builds for every level or just the last one.

It would be nice if they stopped shouting out essentially meaningless numbers. A screenshot of a skill tree would tell us so much more.

Here come the "Blizzard sux" crowd. *sigh*
I really don't get that mentality, Blizzard are the only company left on my roster of 'games I buy from' that have yet to disappoint me with what they give out.

Really Really strange, and they're such nice people when you meet them, they really love their job. :S

Whoever wrote this article / Blizzard doesn't realize the difference between combinations and permutations.

It's actually faster than the fan crowd to be honest. They're lurking in the dark just to strike swiftly with each new Blizzards news / article!

Lets put "A" point in everything (build #51320). Lets put no points in anything (build #4). I want some realistic statistics, not every damn thing they can count thrown in together.

Is that like saying there are 97 billion words in the English Language, because you can put any combination of however-many letters together and make a "word"?

"whj ojer khwehi kihriehr z hiodh wahjkhjkhjk asasddd dd asdfasdfg t"

What? If combinations of letters = words, then there are 97 billion different character builds in Diablo III, right?

Well if you want to calculate permutaions generally speaking you use factorials, and 14!=87,178,291,200 - so what, they have 14 different options in character creation? Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Diablo 3, but that doen't sound like too many. Even taking long scale (rather than short scale) billions into account, that's only 16 options. Then again, I suppose if that's 14 (or 16) options for each class then that looks a bit more like it.

Incidentally, any word on likely system specs yet?

BlizzCon is starting? We'll get new information on Diablo? Hell yeah!

I can only assume this means that stat point allocation is coming back. Because I think it would be hard to get that many combinations from skills alone. Unless there is something I don't know.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. It would be an absolute shame if they completely swiped stat allocation under the rug, I mean they could atleast give you a 'hardcore' tick option when you create your player that allows you to do it yourself.

All the possible builds would be much more interesting.

BARBARIAN JUMPING BUILD, HERE I COME!
Melee Wizard here I come! If stat allocation is still possible, that is.

The first person that says "over 9000" is getting mentally stabbed in the face.

...and I have nothing else to say but awesome.
Just for the record, everytime someone says that it brightens up my day. =[

Sure, billions of class builds, but ultimately they'll mean very little or have several 'uber builds' within a day imo. Not that I'm at all worried about that since I don't play competetively, but with my siblings. So still very much excited and glad to hear this. =]

So what if most of these builds aren't viable? It's still a cool amount...I'm looking forward to this :)

EDIT: Aww this was my 3000th post. I didn't realise until too late....*sigh* ah well :)

How about you release it? It feels like I have waited as long for this as I have for Duke Nukem!

Yeah I am impatient!

I would blame Wow, but its too much fun to be blamed for anything.

Oh and I have played Torchlight so much I have worn a hole in it!

YAAAAAY

D3, a game that has been in development for a time only shorter than Duke Nukem Forever and now they finally have the classes worked out. Now if they start work on the landscaping and game mechanics we might see a release sometime before I hit 55 (am 23 nao).

In all seriousness.

Who cares if there are 97 billion ways to take down a monster as long as its fun and violent.
If there is just 1 spell that will let me make an enemies head explode in a gory finale I will class the game as a win.

There's a lot of things this game seems to be doing that I don't like, especially the lack of attribute customization. But there are things, like the rune system, that interest me.

I'm hoping this is something that just comes together, good and bad working well as a whole, but at this point I still remain sceptical of how much customization the player has.

If it helps, that reminded me to check my post count. 300, I'm almost at your level!
