I was looking through my bookshelves for reading material the other day, and I found a Bloom County anthology that I got a few years ago. I opened it and began to remember why I love this comic. For those who don't know what the single greatest comic on earth is, here's the Wiki page [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_County]. Bloom County was mostly a political comic that took place in the small town of Bloom County. It had a large cast of characters, the most notable probably being Opus:
.
Then, things took a turn for the worse, when Donald Trump sued Berke Breathed and the comic was forced to shut down. Berke Breathed's vision lived on in "Outland", which contained only a few of the original characters, and a few new ones. I thought this incarnation of Bloom County was rather bland and sub-par. Berke stopped producing Outland Comics, and years later, started a new comic called "Opus" [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opus_(comic_strip)] which brought back a few old characters as well. I found Opus to be a rather bland comic as well. Saved only by the inclusion of Bill the Cat and Steve Dallas. What do all of you think of Bloom County and Berke Breathed's work? And so, please respond, and without further ado, "Ackthppp!"

A Wish for Wings that Work is one of my absolute favorite Christmas specials. My brother tried to swipe all my Bloom County books from me many years back...fortunately, I swiped them back before he managed to spirit them away.

I miss Chuck Schultz. But no amount of tears or Christmas specials is going to bring him back to life. Let's enjoy what comics he left behind, before they're all consumed by commercialism.

no he didn't, it was a story line, he would have lost the case anyways on grounds of parody

Berkeley Breathed has been one of my favorite comic-strip makers, or better known by Opus as, "Strippers" since the fourth grade, when I stumbled upon Toons For Our Times.
I was kind of saddened by the Outland and even more so by Opus, but I still look through the old collections and reminisce.

I'm with you on that one.
Thing is, I wasn't even alive during the hay-day of Bloom County, my parents got me hooked on it.

Memory flood on that. My dad has a collection of the old bloom county books, and I read through them when I was a kid. I barely understood the humour in them, but I still licked the characters. I should read them again now that I am older.

I read Penguin Dreams And Stranger Things quite a while ago, and found it occasionally funny, but mostly just par. Opus is even less of an uproar I found, but all newspaper comics seem to have that trouble. I still have a bit of a place in my heart for it though, just for nostalgic reasons I guess.

My favourite joke from Bloom County was Opus describing what he thinks of now when he hears the song Yesterday.
