Note:Looked for this topic before, but couldn't find one.

Hey guys, I just bought a Samsung LCD HDTV the other day and I absolutely love it. Now as my roommate and I just found out, his laptop can play Blu Rays and it has an HDMI output that can hook into my TV (epic win). So do you guys have any suggestions on movies that look great on Blu Ray? Also seeing how this is my first HDTV feel free to share any tips or products that can greatly enhance my HD experience.

Edit: and yes i know i can buy HDMI cables for 6 bucks on amazon, Best Buy and Monster Cables can suck it.

Ummm, 300 and the Dark Knight are the only two I've seen on Blu Ray and they look pretty good. Sorry, can't help much more than that. I got Advent Children Complete and RE Degeneration too, but they're average.

Wall-E, Up and Kung-Fu Panda.

Sin City is also a worthwhile purchase, if your vision is up to the task of distinguishing between 480p and 1080p grayscale.

Blade Runner five disc box set. Hours upon hours of material there. I didn't like the movie that much when I bought it, but I really did by the end of that set. Amazing image quality for an older movie like that. I also dig Watchmen in any of its incarnations. And Stop Making Sense, but only get that if you have a decent sound system.

Not sure if there are any Western fans on here, but The Searchers on blu ray is awe inspiring. It looks better than movies that came out last month. Simply beautiful.

Avatar when available.

Also hook that ***** up to some surround sound and crank it.
Yeah I had a good surround sound system until it, quite literally, blew up, so I'm also shopping around for a good receiver. Once i get that i know i will drive my neighbors nuts :D

anything made by Pixar

Iron Man
Transformers
tropic thunder
batman dark knight
the new star trek
Talladega nights

These are the ones I own and they are very much worth it.

I also own black hawk down and boondock saints on blue ray, the quality isnt much better but the audio is. They are worth buying if you dont already own them, or if you find them on the discount..

some movies with lots of CG have a tendency to look fake to me though...

Gundam 00, Macross Zero, 5 cm per second, Code Geass, Darker than Black, Bakemonogatari, and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea all look amazing in blu ray.

Edit: Actually, if this is your first bluray systerm, I recommend watching Akira. The bluray edition is the only movie made so far that uses Dolby TrueHD 192khz with the hypersonic effect.

I recommend you just sorta watch movies that you would normally watch. What do you normally watch? It's just a DVD player, after all, just with slightly different discs.
