Munchkin's kinda fun the 1st few times, but it can quickly devolve into an endless game. Boring like Monopoly.
Settlers of Catan, as someone has already suggested, it's an exceptional one.
Panic Station... I haven't played it myself, but my roomie likes this competitive paranoia game.
Pandemic is a very good Co-op game where players must exterminate a few viruses around the world.
Operation Flashpoint is also an exceptional game where you're firefighters saving people from a burning house. Co-op.
Libertala is a game about pirates. I don't understand it fully, but it's very fun. Competitive.

That's all I got. I'm not very into board games, but at the bare minimum, take a look at these. Maybe excluding munchkin. It's alright, but I only mentioned it because someone reminded me of the $20 box of regret. Get the cheapest version of the game you can.

Last Night on Earth is pretty fun. I also played a lot of Bang with my friends, which is nice, because its rules are fairly easy to pick up for people that are not into board games.

Settlers of Catan is very good. So is Dominion.

I'm also partial to the card game San Juan; there's a free version available for Android devices called Condado if you have such and want to give it a look.

Let's see... I also have recently enjoyed Kingsburg, Agricola, and Duel of Ages (allow at least two hours and probably more for the latter two.) Cards Against Humanity can be great if you have people with a similarly sick sense of humor. Just be warned I'm not kidding on the latter point.

I love me some Table Top games.

Wits and wages is a fun party game, so is Say Anything.

Ticket to Ride is great fun, as well.

Munchkin is great if you are an RPG fan.

Then you have your table top RPGs

I like to play. Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition & 4e, D20 Modern and Pathfinder.

I have only played the likes of Cluedo and Monopoly and Risk. Any others seem complicated and when I did want to try them when I was younger, I couldn't as no one else was interested.

Battlestar Galactica is my favorite. Most of my friends started watching the show because they loved the game.

7 Wonders and Race for the Galaxy are also good ones to check out.
These are really fun.

You may like descent. It has campaigns but keeps board game mechanics so it feels a little more gamey at the sake of roleplaying but the GM is actually playing the game trying to win rather than just creating a story. The first edition had an expansion called road to legend which had a campaign mode. I haven't played the second edition but I hear it's better than the first. Also Earth Reborn gives you a lot of bang for your buck but it's only 2 player. It also takes like 15 minutes to set up which I don't mind for multiplayer games but tends to make me really sad with 2 player games.

Hmmm.. seems to be the place to ask...

Anyone know a game that's like the old Heroquest board game?
As much as I'd like to get a copy of the original for some nostalgic amusement, I'm not quite willing to pay upwards of $250US on ebay for it.

There's an oldish Lord of the Rings board game out there. It's fookin fantastic even if it does take a year to get through

You mean this one?

It IS a lot of fun if you can convince people to play it with you because it does take forever to play. Worst then a full game of Monopoly.

Risk: Godstorm and Risk: that-future-one-I-can't-recall-the-name-of are both great fun.

But if you want to play a board game without sacrificing pretty electronic media, grab Dokapon Kingdom in the Wii/PS2. Best board game I've ever played... and it's not even a real board game. :p (though it could be made into one, as there's no real-time action. You'd just have to do a bit of maths with all the different equipment).

I mostly just love playing the good ol classical game of chess. But some others like Puerto Rico would be fun to try out as well

They should rename board games to 'bored games', yeah I'm not a fan of board games. However, I used to love the board game Othello(Real name Reversi or something, that's the name I got when I googled Othello) when I was a kid, it's class. Might not be what you're after though, it's just a simple game with disks.

Settlers of Catan is a great game, so I highly recommend it.

I've seen Risk mentioned here and while yes, it's a fantastic game, be careful who you play with. Like, don't do it in a room full of history majors (learned this lesson the hard way a few semesters ago, someone ended up with a concussion), and don't pit yourself against anyone who is historically inclined. My best friends have finally learned this after seven or so years and many lost games of Risk for them.

Cards Against Humanity is a fun one, especially if you're drunk and need a reminder that yes, you have a sick as hell sense of humor.

Twilight Imperium. It's basically a slightly more complex version of Risk with a Wing Commander type setting. Good times. Also Pandemic is another one of my favourites, even though it's incredibly hard to win. It's like a co-op board game where you try to stop a world-ending virus.

Er...Advanced Heroquest :D

I sold mine on ebay a little while ago and got about £25 for it, so it probably won't cost that much.

Also there are old Amiga and probably DOS ROMs of the computerised versions. Not sure how they compare to the board game though.

Finally for the OP. Dunno if you count it as a board game, but Space Hulk. It's out of print and only 2 player but a lot of fun. 1st edition can be picked up relatively cheaply with 2nd and 3rd getting progressively more expensive, primarily because the models packaged with them got more fancy.
