All that metal attached to the body has got to increase a person's armour-class, isn't that reason enough :)

I don't find these folks any worse to look at than obese folks or those with sun-bed tans (those don't look healthy or natural), so I don't see what the fus is about. Their body and their cash = their choice.

[Insert right/'your opinion' answer here]

I don't know. I don't want to know. I think most body modification is horrible. Yes I have earrings, and I'm thinking about getting a tattoo, and I do occasionally dye my hair flaming red, but I wouldn't want something as extreme as huge body modification.

Your body = Your life
Controll about your body = Controll about your life
= Immortality

At least that's the way I would explain such behavior.

While I personally don't share this kind of hobby I wish to adress the TEs Point "They will never get a decent employment" which I think is nonsense. There are plenty of jobs that don't requirre you to be easy on the eye or to be seen at all.

When was the last time you saw the Tax accountant of a major company? Most people in today's economy spend their time sitting in some kind of office, remainding unseen.

Sure being tatooed all over can make for a bad impression at a job interview but then again if these people are qualified professionals they can also be the eye catcher that sets your resumee appart from a dozen other qualified preofessionals.

People are all different. These people must feel very strongly about what they are doing in order to change themselves this drastically. Don't judge. :/
It is human nature to judge everyone and everything. I judge them just the same as they would judge me.
Same reason Wolves abandon the weak. If we gave everyone a fair chance what kind of world would this be?

It's all self-expression. While I find those images slightly disturbing to look at, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. I think the fact that it does screw up your life evidence of distinct societal issues, rather than society's rejection evidence of personal issues.

I say good for them, it's mainly my own disgust that I have problems with. It pisses me off when how I (re)act ant how I think are completely different, but que sera sera. I'll just have to try to change and deal with it until I manage to.

Their body is theirs. They can do what they want with it. As to why... well, I'm sure they have their reasons. Most see it as art, self expression, or just to be different.
I could smear myself in the excrement of animals and parade naked through the town. I would be different. Id also be a naked idiot covered in crap. Who on earth equated different and good. This man should be slapped. Then asked to fulfill the aforementioned task.
Please note that I did not say that any of that was good. The word good was not used in that post. I just said they have the right to do it and we cannot stop them merely by not liking it.

No one said anything about stopping them, I was just pointing out that they're stupid.

I think there's way too much of that, "Oh, we must never judge anyone and accept everyone, and never even as why, just blindly accept every person and everything they do because it's their business."
You gotta draw the line somewhere. Frankly, I think some of those people are pretty grotesque, and regardless of how they feel about it, what I've seen can't be unseen. That's damage to my psyche.

People have different opinions on beauty and concepts of taste. What's weird to you is normal to someone else. That said, my entire body hurts looking at those pictures.

Put simply, they don't want to be what they are. People who change their bodies feel their bodies are inadequate in some way, lacking that certain zeal in their lives. No matter how bizarre, that's the reason. That's the world of today. Don't like something? Change it.

Most people body mod in some way. Sure some people are doing it by baking their skin through over exposure to UV radiation, washing their hair with chemical compounds that change the color and introduce toxins that confuse hormonal reactions in the body, or any other socially acceptable method of messing with our appearance. The only real difference is that these people are doing it in ways and styles much more similar to the way humans have been doing it for the majority of our time on this planet instead of the new ways/styles that our mores say is cool.

I don't plan on ever getting any body mods myself, maybe some minor ink here or there but I don't know. On others, I both appreciate the look of it, and the lack of it. This girl I was totally into had piercings down her back that she ran ribbons through that looked like a corset, and it was hot. Though a girl with unmarked skin is equally hot, so maybe I just lack the conviction necessary to make a solid opinion on it, but I say the obvious go for it if you want, don't if you don't, but just because you are on the other side of the fence doesn't mean the others are stupid/weird for being "conformist" or "counter-culture freaks" just because you arbitrarily disagree.

I really, REALLY don't get why people would go and mutilate their bodies. I mean, it's their body, they have the right to 'mod' it, but IMO even earrings are overkill.. if you have to wound yourself to wear jewelery it's not worth it.

Of the various reasons people spend tens of thousands of dollars on things like this, simple attention seeking is actually pretty low on the list.

So are insecurities. Look at those images again, do those look like people with doubts about their appearance? They want to be different, yes, that doesn't mean they didn't like who they were beforehand. Body-modding as therapy or an escape exists, but it usually stops before people reach the stages seen in the original post. Forgive me if you knew this when you posted what you wrote, I read it as slightly judgmental.

As for my opinion; I don't blink an eye when someone puts on makeup, I might grin like an idiot when I saw this stuff, though. More power to the people with the will and the wallet to live awesome.

Troll much? Already explained it in my post. Try reading the ENTIRE post next time.
Ok fair enough, I understand that the tattoos are something you've worked on for years yourself so that makes sense to me. I apologize for not reading your post as thoroughly as I should have, though I am not a troll. A troll is trying to purposely make somebody mad.
Apology accepted, thank you. I didn't really care about a personal jab; but I DO mind when people post without contributing/furthering the topic. The topic wasn't about me, so it just kinda came across as trolling to me, my bad there. Sorry.

Nah, the other guy you quoted is judgemental. If people want to change themselves, that's their business. I think that changing the hand you've been dealt (figuratively or literally) is reasonable enough. It's not for ME unless we get into a world like Ghost in the Shell (if ever), but whatever floats your boat.

So, what's the better reason? I'm curious now.

Look while i agree that they have every bit as right to do this and show it it public (Honestly its their body), this also means we have the right to critisise what they do.

ON that subject the whole thing inst screaming "Look im a tool of society and fashion"

I honestly don know these people so i dont know their motive,so we can only speculate why they do this. They could be doing this because of society or because of their own personal satisfaction.

My main concern is from a logical stance.Who the hell thought it was a good idea to pierce a giant hole on your mouth?.Do you know how much those things in your ears weigh you down?
How do you eat?Why the fuck open holes IN YOUR NOSE.

I mean, i dont want people do become stoics or something but this is stuff tribes of africa do when they dont know better.Devoid of reason or thinking, only to serve such abstract objects concepts as fashion and society.

Ohh, I stopped reading here.
Life isn't about working your butt-off. If you're not okay with it, that's fine.
I'm not into it either but it's their decision, much like it's the decision of so many else to do pointless drugs.
Or drink alcohol. Or work their entire life in some crappy line of work.

Etc etc.
Yes, working is not the end all be all of existence, but if you think that you don't need a job to get by in life, then you're delusional, and if you think that any mentally sane employer will hire you when you look like that then you're even more delusional.

Then you're naive.
There are plenty of ways to live life - You only look at one of them.
Keep telling yourself that, eventually you'll grow up and be screwed.
