Here's the expression, frogs are cold blooded creatures and thus their skin adjusts to the temperature around. So supposedly you could put a frog in hot water and slowly increase the temperature until it boiled and dies.
Wouldn't that apply to any living creature? Thats surely not supposedly boiling it, that IS boiling it.

Am I the only one who realised this was meant to be metaphorical?

It usually takes me a while to realise when I've been doing something stupid or something isn't quite right... but then I just try pretend I knew all along and was just joking around.

I think this is what you were asking... I am doubting it myself now. (Though it would be rather fitting if I am wrong about the topic now)

I uh tha.. um.. what?

Rhetoric. Gotcha.

So let's talk about bottled waters instead. I prefer distilled over spring. I hear the GNC has some decent cathartic brands, anyone?

Err this doesn't work, this experiment was merely postulated and was never done for real for decades as technically it was animal cruelty (it hardly served any beneficial scientific purpose like find a cure for cancer).

This was merely an extrapolation of an physiological phenomenon, on testing frogs nervous system it was discovered it couldn't perceive a temperature CHANGE if it was slow enough.

However if the water got hot enough it would still jump out as no matter how slow it increased in temperature, it would always reach a point where the frog started feeling uncomfortable and jumped out in self preservation.

It has no scientific basic any more and now only stands as a social analogy that people don't notice danger if it comes slowly enough. In fact people just don't notice it till it's too late, the only way you can boil a frog is if you kill it or immobilise it before going in the water... or put the lid on tight!

Either way, frogs legs are best fried, thye really are quite tasty, just ask a Frenchman or someone from America's Deep South (two regions where frog's legs are delicacies).

Well if the sun explodes I think I'd notice the temperature difference

to answer the question, no one would really notice it until it was too late, much like the frog.

tho i think since we're warm blooded we might notice it a bit quicker and be able to stop ourselves from being badly burned but it wouldn't be a quick recognition of it

So the thing is, how long does it take for you to realise that you are being 'boiled'. Some people don't realise it for their entire lives, slowly dying.

There's also the short term types, like a 3 hour dream when you realise that you're not supposed to be a flying cat and wake up.

Or thinking back on the day and remembering that you've been alternately shouting and kissing everyone. (Dr House would have spotted that immediately and attribute it to a neurological disease)
For the last time, Morpheus, I don't give a shit about the Matrix. Just let me boil in peace!

And stop mailing me phones - it's totally creepy.
Hahaha! That was brilliant.

OT: Huh?

Well I'm not a big fan of bottled water. But I'd go for a flavored affair, perhaps with just a touch of CO2. Got anything you would recommend?
