I don't usually stray too far away from known territories on the internet. Mostly because the speed doesn't really allow me, but nonetheless. I did however do this one time. And that was the perfect time for it to be done.
I noticed an advertisement about Bomberman. Bomberman Ultra to be specific. As I have allways been a huge fan of bomberman, I went gleefully on and waited 15 minutes for [a href=http://bombermanultra.com/]the advertisement site[/a] they've made for it. And I'll say it was well worth it. This was good news indeed (Until I realized thay had allready made a new bomberman. Bomberman Live for Xbox. But that one is not new now. So let me continue). Now I could head right back into what I enjoy the most. Throw bombs around like a menacing maniac.
On to the game. I took the liberty to read around on the net about this new game (among others [a href=http://ps3.ign.com/objects/775/775490.html]if you're[/a] [a href=http://www.hudsonentertainment.com/feature.php?f=Bomberman_Ultra&feature_id=%9C%A6%A4%AA%97%A2]interested[/a]), so you wouldn't have to. I found out, however that all the information currently available was on the advetisment-page. What a waste of time. Yes. I see the irony. I'll go right ahead and stop wasting yours.
[HEADING=3]Bomberman Ultra[/HEADING]
The first and biggest difference between this game and the original (Read: The ones who were not all-new. Those who all had the same concepts, were on diffrent concoles and etc. Not included the seemingly [a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bomberman_Land_(Wii)]adventure/puzzle[/a][a href=http://www.hudsonent.com/bml/]-version[/a] [a href=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=162551]of the game[/a]) is that in this game you have customization-options. You have several different characters you can choose from (I shall go into details about it later). Also with the ability to breed their offspring. Therefore you can make, and I quote, "150,000 uniqe combinations". As to how much of what you can mix I'm a little unclear on. But most of what I've read points to it being "choose ones head with anothers body".
In the character list there is all sorts of diffrent figures. Luckily, though. I've learned that they've kept the original. The "White bomber". As to weather or not you're able to change colors I am also not sure about. I know that character customization is becoming bigger and bigger now a days. But I think they might be moving a bit too much away from the whole bomberman being a bomb-making-robot point. I'm sure it's a lot of fun seeing bomberman run around as a ballerina, throwing bombs around. I just don't see the need for this. I know I'll to some extent enjoy this, but I also know I'd enjoy it just as much if there were only color-choices like I've grown up with. Just like sporenography, it is innevituable that we'll end up fighting the most bizarre versions of bombermen(?) ever to throw bombs. But whatever pleases the crowd I guess. And if this means they'll get more to play bomberman, I'm all for it.
On the power-up front there hasn't been all that much of a change. We still have our beloved "bomb up", "Line bombs", "kick the bomb", and "longer blast" power-ups. There has been added one or two new ("dangerous bomb" and "Land Mine bomb") power-ups, but nothing worth mentioning. On the other part, we pretty much have a counterpart to everything now. Also the "illness" power-down, is still with us. Still feared like the plague. Probably because it's the same thing.
Now there is also new gameplay-modes. Including such as "friendly fire", "frag, "zombie" and "tournament". Some of them are almost the same as the old one, but with a little twist. While others are completely new and refreshing. Like the "paint" and "zombie" mode. These are modes where you are to paint as much as possible with your bombs (No, not Van Gogh style. More like underpaid floor-painting style). The one who's marked his turf the most wins. No suprise there.
Arenas have of course been remapped and remade. And several flashy gimmicks have been added. To the point where you catch yourself thinking if you shouldn't just go out and play. There are now tornadoes and everything else possible imaginable to ruin you and your friends relaxing evning.
We have been given a promise by Hudson, however. This is not some silly Adventure/puzzle game (Yes, Bomberman Land. I'm looking at you). This is high speed, completely out-of-bounderies bomb-throwing with no sense of your own good health. This, ladies and gentlemen. This is Bomberman. Although I somehow suspect it's been added some kind of "I'm not really a gamer, and can't keep up" button. And you have to choose to continue. And they probably forgot to make the other button. Seeing how other games are being dumbed down to meet the mosts abilities, I doubt it hasn't happened to this either. Though I probably shouldn't complain too much. It's bomberman. A frachise been done so must I think it's pretty soar now. Poor chap should have been given a chance to rest in between now and when it was on top.
Now as you that you've been a good boy or girl, and read through the entire thing, I shall now hand out your reward. Oh wait. We're out of cake. I'll just tell you about some of the characters instead, though. Head over [a href=http://bombermanultra.com/]here[/a] to have a look at them yourself.
I start off with "Clint Bombwood". A tough ass Clint Eastwood in bomberman version.
"Dyna Mite". Some kind of cheerleader. Not sure what a cheerleader is doing throwing bombs, but why not?
"Holy Smoke". One of my favourites. Seemingly a angel with a harpe. Ruthlessly killing of other bombermen with bombs. What's not to love?
"Cap'n Blast". A neat looking bomberman, I shall admit. He's the military type of the group
"Long Bomb". They even included the Jockey. This is a American football-player. (Yes. American "football" It's not really football, now is it?)
"Shinobi Bomb". I know there are ninja-lovers out there. And this is your bomberman.
"Mr. Bomb". Well. Some fancy rich bomberman, I guess.
"His Royal Bombness". The king. The king is running around with other petty bombermen and throwing bomb like there was no tomorrow.
"she-bomb". uh? Is it just me, or did that word remind you about some other word too? Why specify "she"? I'm quite sure the Cheerleader is kinda bound to be a she. If not, I don't wanna know.
"Poindexter". A miserable attempt to make a bomberman-nerd.
"Dr. Ein". Now there is a very famous inventor and mathematician joinign the fun. There's no end to this! Will we have Paris Hilton join us too? Arnold Schwartzneger? No! No! I shall no... Fine. Chuck Norris?
"Bombo the clown". Pretty self-explainary. The clown you do not invite to your kids birthday. The neighbours' perhaps?
Last but not .. Or maybe she is the least? She is however not the first addition I expected in a fierce bombing session. She is "Bomberina Ballerina". What's this for? You want my little sister to join? I doubt a ballerina'll do that.
