Bond uses a Walther becuase its compact and easy to conceal but it you were a secret agent what pistol would you use?
Actually, in the novels his original weapon was the Beretta 418.

He used this up until Dr. No when it was replaced by the Walther PPK because the Beretta misfired at the end of his last mission.

Interestingly, the previous novel was From Russia With Love, but the movies reversed the order of these novels for some reason.

As for which weapon I would use, I would use the Webley-Fosbery Self-Cocking Automatic Revolver, ironically also used by Sean Connery in the film Zardoz.

This is not a practical choice. The gun is probably unwieldy and unsuitable for spy operations. But I think it's cool because it uses the recoil of discharging a round to slide the entire top portion and thus cock the gun to ready the next round. It never went into wide use because the clip-loading automatic handgun was invented at around the same time, making automatic revolvers seem quaint and underpowered what with only eight shots versus the twenty in some clips.

but i think it looks cool and that's all that matters to me. So I would make a poor secret agent.

So far large high caliber revolvers are the main choice, I guess because they're so stealthy and easy to conceal.

Haha! This made me giggle.

Why people can't settle for something like this...

A pistol that'd allow me to clear the entire room quickly.
Also known as the HK MP7 PDW. (Ok, so its a *machine* pistol, but still...)

Walther P99 - MK1 - the orgional 1990's version. Possibly one of the best looking 9mm handguns around - the newer versions - erm...not so much.

By all means, take a hand cannon that weighs a ton and has only a handful of shot in it. Oh and a kick that will strain your wrists after only a few shots. Ahh, and on top of that add poor reliability as well, damn thing can jam easier then most handguns which is bad if your life depends on it.

There is a reason the military uses light side arms past the fact a 9mm will kill just as easily as a short .50. Stealth isn't it, it is simply because you can put more lead down range with better accuracy all the while carrying a great deal more ammo onto the field.

OT: Still a sig guy myself for some reason. Though I do find the Taurus to be a interesting... a handgun that uses shot.

A few packets of single-shot pistols disguised as cigaretts. Extremely easy to conceal, small, light and yes, they exist.

Very good choice, sir.
I own a P99, it's a great gun and You are right, the old styled ones are much better looking.
I would prefer a H&K for Special Agent Use. To comply with the MP7 Ammo a UCP (Ultimate Combat Pistol, shares the same 4.6x30mm Ammo. Hell, it even takes the longer higher capacity MP7 Mags...) would be perfect.

I prefer two handguns out of all that I have had the pleasure to use, being military personnel and all.

If we're talking about new guns, then this:

My current handgun - extremely accurate, powerful enough and more reliable than any Russian pistol I've ever used. Also, light and easy to aim for me. Not to mention the bonus of semi-automatic power and the ability to modify it.

If we're talking about old ones, then a good old...

Reliable, accurate, semi-automatic. What more could I want?
However, if it's not available, I'll take a Walther P38 too.

I'd have one of these, concealed somewhere about my person, maybe hidden in my hair or beard:
But I'd also wear one (or eight!) of these as backup:

I'd also use hollowed out, Teflon coated, pointed Titanium tipped bullets filled with a neurotoxin, to make up for the lack of power.

There's the intimidation factor, and I want my Bond to be able to take on Batman and Chuck Norris and live. Manly power, raaah! You know, Dirty Harry style. Whether it's effective or efficient I leave to the gun experts.

The trusty ol' Makarov.
It's accurate, it's easily concealed, and it's incredibly reliable.
Except for when it doesn't, which is when it matters most. ;)
Granted, Ocelot was being overconfident.
