Hey Escapist members, I need a bit of help here. In my Highschool english class, im supposed to find a book to read before the end of the ear. The only requirements are two of the main characters are teenagers and have parents that are alive and involved in the story. Now, this would be easier for someone more open but im a nerd that likes fantasy and Sci Fi books, so does anyone know any books that might follow this guideline and they found good/interesting? Post some details maybe so I can get an idea.

Why not Romeo and Juliet, if I'm correct that would fit the bill of two teens with parents

Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staying_Fat_for_Sarah_Byrnes]?

It's a pretty good read, and it fits your criteria.
Both protagonists are teens, both have parents who are involved in the story.

I'll link you to Wikipedia for details, as I'm a little strapped for time. :l

@Sleek I'm terribly, terribly ashamed of you my friend (I had to put up with R&J through all of secondary school and hate it!)
The Wereling Triology,
Only the Female leads parents are activly involved in the story, Male leads are mentioned involved behind the scenes-ish. But still two teens...Also modern times fanatsy, so keeps to your preferance.
In fact I'd recommend reading the triology anyway it's a top notch read.

i know this may sound stupid but a good book i read was warcraft: chieften of the horde, its really interesting and very good to create a picture, and slightly easy to read

Andy McNab (I think that's him) has the Boy soldier series. The main Strory revolves around a teen boy (forgot the name) who tries to get into the army and fails due to complications with his families past.(it's better than I made it out) The only problem with this is that there isn't a second teen protagonist (there is a girl but she isn't the main character) and it doesn't involve the boy's parents (he's an orphan I think and the other protagonist is his uncle who eventually looks after him as if he was his farther)

Probably won't be much help to you but I can hope.

Those are odd requirements... really odd. What the hell?

R&J is the only book I can think of to be honest. I try to stay away from teenage angst novels.

EDIT: Ah, you can't read that one. Than... um...

I got nothing.

Sigh... I know, I much prefer a good zombie novel... or atleast something with lazers.

Wheel of Time, if you don't mind reading twelve books. Parents aren't very involved, and not through the whole series, but they're there, and make a difference on occasion.

EDIT:
Do both of them have to have parents that are involved? If not, you could go with Mort by Terry Pratchett. Even though you'd have to stretch the meaning of "alive"...

Hmm... For the nerdy guy...

How about Lamb by Christopher Moore? Jesus and Biff are both teenagers throughout most of the story, and their parents are alive and involved.

I'd also go with the Dresden Files, though that'd be a bit of a stretch for two teenaged characters.

it's a bit of a stretch, but how about Dune? paul was 15 at the time of the story and his mother did contribute to the plot. also fayde rautha ,i think, was also in his teens with his uncle the baron harkkonen being a type of parent. kind of a stretch but dune was a pretty good book. there is also children of dune.

I read that once, and though I know Paul's parents were involved a ton, im not sure about another character. I guess in the later books his kids are involved and he's mentioned... but That started getting REEALLY confusing

How "involved" do the parents have to be? If they're just allowed to be a sort of motivation for the main character, I suggest you read Enders Game.

In fact, read Enders Game anyway. It's fantastic.

The First Wheel of Time book by Robert Jordan. It's fantasy, so right up your street, and involves several teenage protagonists and their parents. As you get further into the book the parents get left behind though (although that could be a good thing? Growing up, spreading their wings, leaving home to live on their own etc etc snore snore).

If you need a contemporary read though, I'm all out of ideas. I read books to escape, not explore people who I'd dislike if I met them.
It's like they've asked you to find a book that you're almost guaranteed to find mind numbingly dull.
Teen angst + parents + "relationships" = No thanks, I'd rather enjoy myself.

Not sure how involved parents have to be but a half decent fantasy is the Farseer trilogy. (Author: Robin Hobb)

Hopefully not spoiling too much but Main char is a Royal bastard, trained as an assassin but publically a diplomat. Mother not really involved in story, father (a prince) becomes more involved as story goes on.

Love interest, local girl, candlemaker who's mother is dead and father is an alcoholic.

The story also includes some of his younger life and growing up around the castle it starts when he's six, first book ends when he is about 16 and he is 16-17 throughout the other two books.
(It's been a while since I've read them so apologies if someone feels the need to correct me. 'ACTUALLY he had his 18th birthday on page 287 of the third book' or whatever)
