I'm going camping in a few days, and I'd love to have a few good books to relax with while I'm there.

Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Rather difficult to recommend anything if we don't know anything about your tastes...

This.

Also, try reading some H.P. Lovecraft. Good stuff.

This ^^, otherwise I'll advise a horror story about a camping holiday going terribly wrong...

Right after I look one up.

The Shadows of The Wind: Carlos Ruiz Zafon

One of my favourite books ever. I've bought copies for everyone I know and everyone agrees it's fantastic.

The exemption of my personal preferences was actually deliberate, as I'd like to use the distraction free environment that camping presents to branch out and try genres that I never even knew about.

Twilight...he he he

but seriously, don't read those.

I always tell people to go and read the bourne trilogy because they are awesome, so that will be my recommendation until everyone has read them.

I'm not a big reader, but out of the few books I have read, I loved the Cthulhu mythos. Particularly The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and At the Mountains of Madness. I don't think it's the actual books I like though... It's more the setting and atmosphere.

If you like scifis I recommend Illustrated Man by Bradbury.
If you aren't then I'd also recommend Slaughter House 5 by Vonnegut. You might want to read it twice, though. It can be confusing yet still great.

Okay then, I'll just throw some of my personal favourites. "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss is the best thing that happened to fantasy writing in years. "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoevsky is my all-time favourite, but you have to let it draw you in over the course of the first 50 pages, or otherwise the remaining 1000 is gonna be a chore.

You can also try something non-fiction. You're going camping, you say, why not try Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods"? There's a funny book if I ever see one. If you're looking for something light to read, but leaning towards popular science, try something by Tim Flannery.

My favourite book in the world: Black Oxen by Elizabeth Knox. It's magical realism and it's fucking awesome.

If you like comedy and fantasy I would go for Small Gods or Men at Arms, both from Terry Pratchett.

If you like a compelling book series that is fantasy but it's like another Tolkien then I would highly recommend The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

If you like an interesting, mature series, then the Dark Tower series by Stephen King.
Everyone is always quick on the draw with The Wheel of Time series. I am beginning to think I am the only nerd in existence that hates that series. The writing is tiresome and the characters all clichéd and from what I was able to stomach (half the first book) never going to be properly developed with several popping in and out of existence as the story needed.

I will admit however they are better then twilight, there is not much worse the twilight.

Not to say that I cannot enjoy a story in spite of bad writing. King is not tops on my list of great writers but I did enjoy many of his books.

If you can find a copy try a book called Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff; Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore.

Choke- Chuck Palahniuk
The movie was less dark and had more humor in it. I think I may have actually liked the movie a bit more.
