Is there a website where you can read the first few chapters of a book for free to decide if you want to buy it? I ask because I have been thinking about trying out a song of fire and ice series, but I am fairly picky about my books so I want to read a few chapters before I commit to a purchase.

If there isn't, hey someone should make a website where you can read the first few chapters of a book for free to decide if you want to buy it.

Amazon.com and it's Kindle Application allows you to read a bit of it before you have to purchase it. However, I do believe that you need either a smart phone (for the Kindle App) or a Kindle itself to access it; I don't believe you can just do it from a computer.

Audible.com also gives you about a five minute trial for each book but these are all audio books, so that might not be quite what you want.

If you find it on Google Books, you can read quite a bit - usually they remove lots of pages, so you can't read the whole (unless the book is free) but you can get a good impression.

go into a bookstore, sit down the floor, and read the first few chapters. If you like it, buy it.

Yeah, there's that, as well as the function to click on the book and 'Look Inside'. You can read the first chapter on most books that way.

www.baen.com

www.baen.com/library - A rather large amount of completely free books that you can still buy if you want

baencd.thefifthimperium.com - More free books, different from free library, buyable at baen's website
Snap.

I know the Black Library has a few pdf chapters floating around their website but it's the literature arm of Games Workshop.
