Though I also hate books like "Pride and Prejudice", and "House of Mirth", basically the Victorian-era snorefests I was forced to read for school.

Anyway, now that that mandatory thingy-majigger is over, I'm going to go for the exact opposite of what I just warned about. I think that Richard Dawkins' The God Dilemma needs to get burned. Why? Because I'm allowed to believe what I want, and having a book calling me a dumbass isn't going to change my mind.

I'm guessing you're talking about the God Delusion, right? I wouldn't say the book flat-out calls you a dumbass, no more then most religious texts do, in fact I saw the God Delusion primarily as a book that explained how morality is an independence factor within human society that shapes religion, rather then vice-versa. This argument, I feel, NEEDS to be brought to light in the modern world. Too many people who feel future shocked are arguing that religion dictates morality, when in fact it's the changing attitudes of social morality that dictates what religion teaches (hence why we don't sell our daughters into sexual slavery, which the Old Testament allows).

I suppose that you have a point.
While I'm most certainly against a lot of things in the bible, my main attachment to religion is simply that I believe there is some form of entity that holds the universe together. I've never read the bible, I don't go to church, but I believe that there HAS to be some form of energy -weather you call it god, karma, science, whatever- that must exist.

Silly? Sure. Impossible? Nay!

I don't think you're wrong for believing in a magic sky daddy, but I do believe that it is foolish based on objective evidence. You may have subjective evidence, though, of which I can say nothing about.

You are correct in calling Dawkins a dick, though. He most certainly is. Since I'm on his side of the fence and not yours, I find it hilarious.

I'll vote any book claiming a magic sky daddy. Oh, and a book I picked up the other day to read and refute called The Collapse of Evolution. Shit, creationists are stupid.

Umm...I'd sacrifice Eragon and everything on this page in a heartbeat (with ANTIGUA and The Fifth Sorceress getting special mention), and as an afterthought I'd add George Orwell's 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Gaining honorary mention are any pro-athiest text, but because all of them have the same name I'm not going to mention any specifics.


The Eye of Argon is close, but gets a pass for the same reason as Rocky Horror and Ed Wood movies. The world needs literature that bad.

None. No matter how bad the book or evil/stupid the author, I would never advocate the burning of any book. To destroy ideas for any reason is fundamentally wrong. If you dislike a book, write a critical review or satirize it, but don't burn it. You don't kill someone because they have a different opinion that you.

Please see above comment about it being 'fictional destruction', I obviously wasn't clear enough in my first post.

My apologies, I did not catch that from the OP. It might help if the thread was called "Books You Hate" instead of "Books You Want Horribly Destroyed". When you start talking about eliminating books and burning piles, you convey a drastically different meaning.

Why, oh why, would you want both those excellent dystopian books destroyed? Especially when you could just go back in time and get rid of WE, by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1920, which both Orwell and Huxley openly admitted to ripping off

Any book related to a video game in some way. Games are prolific enough and fully capable of telling their own story. If they want to expand the universe's lore, then they should have either put it in the game, or make a new one and include it.

I'm inclined to throw Star Wars Novels in there, but then I remember how fucking awesome Heir to the Empire was and that the one book that permanently destroyed my positive perception of Star Wars novels (Shadows of the Empire) was also a video game based book.

'Grunts', its a book about a fantasy world getting modern weapons and gear. A potentially comical setting since the wielders are orcs and the book starts very tongue in cheek. But the writing is all over the place, none of the characters make sense and you never know whats going on or where they are since the descriptions are terrible.

I was hoping for something along the line of Terry Pratchets 'Moving Pictures', what I got was a steaming pile of unreadable trash.

Sure, why not? The strange thing about me is, I have absolutely NO affiliation to the bible, other than my belief in the "magic sky daddy." I've never read it, I don't plan on it, and probably never will, but It just really pisses me off when people bash it. I just feel that it's a sacred thing, you know? A thing that shouldn't be f*ck'd with.
