The Dark Tower books would be great, maybe an RPG set before book one (Gunslinger).

Redwall was at least turned into a TV series that played on PBS.

I think if you threw enough money at a good director the "Horus Heresy" novels could make a good SiFi channel series. Just make sure Dan Abnet can't get near the scripts.

Yes. Paramount, 20th Century Fox, whoever, listen to this guy.

Also, anything written by Ayn Rand. Every single piece of literature she has ever written is pure gold.

Tim Findley's "The Wars": Here is a potentially strong strategy, FPS, WWI game with an involved story and admirable characters.

Dostoevsky's "Crime & Punishment": An open world RPG, set in old Russia.

Ayn Rand's "Atlus Shrugged": An adventure game concept with some new styled architectural mini-games and perhaps a mechanic that gauges the users creativity and uniqueness.

Shakespeare's "King Lear": I think a RTS styled game with a hero type of structure similar to WarCraft III would be in order here, play the role of any of Lear's daughters in an effort to rule the entire Kingdom. Think of how cool it would be to play Cordelia's side of the story, which would have a handful of the play's actual characters being super units against the standard units of Regan and Gonerill.

Hamlet: I actually rewrote the last act of Hamlet for a production and portrayed the action as if it were a 2D fighting game. To Be or Not 2! Now, imagine some of the potential combo attacks that could exist (Hamlet's "Skull of Yorick" Finisher would be awesome). In reality this play would play much better as a directed RPG / Adventure game.

The question of what books would make good games is great, but it is ruined by saying "or movie".

Why? Because Book to Movie has been done to death in society in general, and requires much less thinking about how to manage the transition between the two media.

Book to game requires a lot more thought about how to manage game-play and still present the quality of the universe established by the book.

Atlas Shrugged. Unless it was a horrible lie, I believe they are with Brad Pitt and Joley. No! Please don't be true.

I studied King Lear in highschool and watched a poor movie on it. Needless to say, I have grown to shudder at the very thought of it.

EDIT: My bad, I thought you were talking about movies for a sec. Games would be fun.

Call of Cthulhu. Oh wait, they're doing that (nerdgasims).
what? they really are making a cthulu movie? SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!
Again, I'm not to sure. The internet tends to lie but Youtube is flouting around 'gonnabe' trailers for it. I think they want people to get on board of the idea.

Any of the "Scarecrow" trilogy of Matthew Reilly books. To be honest, they're written like Hollywood movies, a translation wouldn't be hard, ditto a game. It even has an Aliens reference in the first chapter.

An adaptation of the movie "The Crow". Think about it. Do it like the original DMC and it shall be gold.

Second! Although if they cut any part of the story i'd have to punch the director in the throat...
Trouble is...if they made a game of it...we'd never see it in Australia (curse the lack of an R rating! :p)

i would have to go the ryan kealey books (heart of betrayal/the american, the assassin and the invisible) by andrew britton. he was considered the next tom clancy, and still is. they are an amazing piece of fictional writing on tactical espoinage and it would also be an fitting tribute for him . (he unfortunately passed away on the 18th of march due to an undiagnosed heart condition at 27 years old).

Even though games and movies have been made from it, the Dune series would be my bet, I'd really enjoy a NEWER game, all the games based on Dune (That I know of) were made a good while back, I'd like to see something with at least decent graphics and a good storyline, and maybe one that took place in say, The Machine Crusade. As for the movies, I'd also like to see a movie based on The Machine Crusade, it's one thing to imagine the Titan Agamemnon crushing the "hrethgir" (cyber-speak for free humanity) with his mighty arachnid battlesuit, but another to see it in a movie with the graphics standards of today, or even watching the "hrethgir" bombarding the earth nukes in full Exterminatus style would be pretty freakin' sweet.

I'd love to see the book "Ender's Game" made into a hybrid of RTS (for when he's playing the "games"), and 3rd or 1st person sequences for the combat training in their flash suits and various other sequences like the marines boarding the alien space crafts.

I'd also like to see "Starship Troopers" made into a game that's based on the actual book; as the movies bore no resemblances to it at all.

"Event Horizon" would also make an excellent game if it were to be based on the book and not the movie.

Most of the books I've read are the Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler sort of novels, so chances are that some very similar games have cropped up - Elite US military unit, fighting off hordes of Russians/ Arabs with a toothpick. On occasion, the bad guys are neo-nazis, so really you could just look to the MOH games.
Cussler's Oregon Files series would make a great basis for a game. A rusted heap of crap merchant steamer which is actually the most advanced ship on the high seas crewed by a group of ex elite army/CIA who hire themselves out to good governments (pretty much only the US, note the italics...) to crush the bad guys.

I say Blood Sucking Fiends by Christopher Moore, of course any of his books would make an awesome movie.
They'd make great movies, but how would something like Lamb translate into a game? A side-scroller starring Biff, the unknown best friend of Christ? Ok, I'm sold, who's making it?
