Hey there Escapists. I'm constantly looking for a way to make my PS3 wireless connection more powerful, either by boosting my modem's antenna or finding a way to boost my PS3. Currently i have a D-Link DSL-G604T in the main house, with my computer and PS3 in the flat out the back. I have gotten an extended antenna(i.e. about three or four inches taller then the standard one) on both my modem and on my PC. The PC one is connected to a wire, which means i can put it basically anywhere to get good reception.

However, i do not have this luxury for the PS3. Since the wireless antenna is built into the console proper, it is hard to move it about (i have one of the first PS3's released, so its the size and weight of a cinder-block) to get a decent connection.

I have made a makeshift 'radar dish' out of the antenna connected to the modem in the main house, using this technique; http://www.ehow.com/how_4588581_parabolic-dish.html (sorry, i don't know how to make links). This has boosted the connection strength considerably - from around 50% to about 80%, when placed properly. The only thing wrong with this method is that i have no real way of telling if the 'dish' is pointed directly at the PS3, and there is no quick way into the main house computer room without walking through the entire house.

I was wondering...if i connected a USB network adapter to my PS3 via a USB connection, would that give me a greater connection strength without having to mess around with the dish and such?

Something like this: http://reviews.cnet.com/adapters-nics/wireless-g-usb-network/4505-3380_7-30970597.html

I also wonder if anybody else have this problem.

I don't know but I'll be periodically checking this thread for an answer because I have a very similar problem with my PS3. At least with my 360 I can run an extending USB jumper and place the antenna in a better place (even though I had to pay for wireless, guess that's not an issue on the new 360 though) but my PS3 I have to move to an entirely different room.
