I am about to run boot camp on my mac. I have been told many times that it is a tricky procedure so I am backing up my computer. I have a few queries about boot camp that I want to ask you guys.

1. How much space does boot camping a mac take. You need to download a windows OS so how much hard drive space will that be.

2. Once you boot camp a computer can you revers the process and remove boot camp without completely resetting your mac.

You need to have a window's install disk at hand. You can actually decide how much space you want to give to Windows, but I think the minimum is 15gb for Vista. XP was somewhere along the lines of 3-5gb and Vista was 5-10gb if I remember correctly. But it isn't that much space. I would give it 30gb just to be on the safe side and so you can actually install programs.

Yes you can, you just launch the bootcamp assistant and there will be an option for removing the partition without resetting your Mac. Oh and once you set up a partition you cannot resize it without erasing all the data in your current one.

Hope that helps, any more questions you can ask me.

Thank you, that helps a lot. I was intending to download XP so 30 gig should do.

I would burn the ISO to a disk. Trust me, the program is a little picky on what it will take.

DON'T NEED BOOTCAMP ANYMORE!! :D

Check out VMware Fusion instead. With that you can run your Windows inside a window on your regular Mac OS Desktop.

I have a new question

3. How tricky s boot camp to operate and what is the off chance it will go wrong. I have used time machine and made a back up. Would it be possible to go now and boot camp it on my own or should I go to a mac store and ask them to do it. is there any other proceedure.

Bootcamp is pretty easy to operate. You just basically keep clicking next until it's done (filling in the appropriate things of course). Make sure you print out the instructions. They will be invaluable to you during the entire process. Not much that can really go wrong. The only thing I could see as a possible problem is you might not know how to switch back to OSX (you hold either Option or control during start up I can't remember which).

As for ISOs. http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060619181010389 that will help you burn the file to a disk, essentially making a window's disk.
If you just download a file (IE. Pirate which I do not condone), then you won't be able to install it.
