I'm noticing a trend here. Certain manufacturers are great for certain guns. For example most people use Jakobs snipers because they're high powered and you want a sniper that kills in one shot.
I go
Sniper/pistol: Jakobs
Shotgun: Torque/Tediore
SMG: Maliwan
Rifle :(
Rockets: Dont use 'em.

Also, does anyone know what brand makes a standard automatic rifle? I started out with something called the "gearbox rifle" which was like an AK47 type of thing, but now it seems like every assault rifle is either single shot or has to spin up like a minigun.
Vladof rifles are your best bet. I got a purple Vladof yesterday which is fully automatic with a clip of 42. Most Vladof rifles that I've used have been fully automatic without minigun spin.

Maliwan corrosive sniper rifles and SMGs, especially when it comes to fighting Loaders, though I do find that Jakobs guns are also pretty good just for the sheer damage. I think I also had a favoured shotgun at some time made by Jakobs.

But I have to agree with the guy above who hates Dahl. Burst fire sniper rifles are a horrible idea and anyone who thinks otherwise should have fun with the recoil.

And That said:
There's actual brand fideliy artifacts, that give you neat stat bonuses for a certain manufacturer.

Back in Borderlands 1, I actually mained Eridian guns. They were clunky and inefficient , but I loved the feeling of wielding alien guns in a universe where everyone uses bullets. It made me feel like the protagonist in District 9.

In Borderlands 2, I'm loving Torgue weapons so far. Dual wielding 2 rocket miniguns is by far the most fun I've had in a FPS. I actually remember using this one for like 5-6 levels:

I used that until I was level 14, surprisingly enough. It's just that overpowered.

Generally I go Maliwan because of the certainty of elemental effect. (I play a siren)

But if there's a weapon that isn't Maliwan, has an elemental effect and is better than what I currently have, well that's a keeper.
At one point I did have a Vladof sniper with fire damage on it. That weapon was just amazing in terms of damage output, shame I out-leveled it and it just destroyed my ammo count.

My current electric Vladof scoped assault rifle is also rather nice too, shame it has the same ammo consumption problem.

My shotgun changes between Bandit, Torgue, and Hyperion, with the rare Tediore. I would use Jakobs, but all their shotguns can only be fired once or twice.
For my revolvers and rifles, I use Jakobs.
For my Rocket Launcher, I use Bandit or Torgue.

Im a toss up of Bandit, Jakobs, Hyperion, and Tediore.

-Bandit weapons for the pure Dakka (specially love their large capacity 4-barrel shotguns.)
-Jakobs for power and speed/accuracy (prefer pistols with them.)
-Hyperion for un-aimed usage (really good for Second Wind.)
-Tediore because they freaking explode when you reload.

Im telling ya, I thought the guns in BL1 were great, they were nothing compared to BL2's.

*in thick Russian accent* My commando is clad in Vladof colors while using Vladof rifle. It reminds enemies of impending Soviet punishment
Thank you for saying this, as it give me reason to put this in:

Wish I could find a Vladof with the minigun barrels... Only ones I find are Dahl...

Also, did you find the Vladof sickle colors for any of your characters yet? I have it for all but my Commando.

Out of all the brands there is only one I don't really like and that's Torgue. I can't seem to adjust to the slower projectile speed.

As for the rest:

Pistols: Jakobs all the way, with the occasional Vladof when it has Slag rounds.

SMGs: Dahl, Maliwan, or Bandit. I occasionally make an exception for Hyperion, or Tediore but only if the SMG in question is a serious step up from the one I'm using.

Assault Rifles: Vladof or Dahl. I'm in it for as much damage as quick as possible and no one does that better than Vladof.

Shotguns: I don't really use these much but when I do I prefer Hyperion with an elemental effect.

Sniper: Maliwan for elementals, Jakobs for damage.

Rocket Launchers: The ONLY weapon type I will use Torgue for the explosive damage. Or Vladof for reduced ammo consumption.

For pistols I like Jakobs, because revolvers are awesome. For the others I don't really have a preferences except I don't like Dahl's burst fire. Since I carry 2 snipers at a time, I usually end up with at 1 Maliwan though.

This seems like the perfect time for a Dos Equis man picture.

Seriously, those large-ass clips are magic.

I also find it funny how every Bandit gun title is misspelled.

I always keep a Jakobs on hand, just in case I come into a situation where I need to get out of it quickly. However, my preferred playstyle is to pepper an enemy, move to another position, repeat, so having a Maliwan on hand so I can dish out some elemental damage (usually corrosive), so I can reload and move around on the battlefield and continue to damage the enemy is handy. I have been however relying heavily on Torque this time around, much more than I ever did in Borderlands 1 at least.

Anything Hyperion if pretty much worthless(Except for an awesome orange shotgun I found that shoots horizontal lines of fire). That reverse recoil thing makes it so I have to fire at full speed for 5 seconds before I am able to hit anything, and by then my clip is almost empty so I have to do it again after I reload.
As for favorites, Tediore is pretty awesome because you can throw your gun to do damage equal to the damge you would get from shooting all your bullets. I usually just shoot one bullet and throw the gun and it kills anything pretty much instantly. It is the best special ability for any gun ever.
Captcha: "Well isn't that special" Why yes captcha it is. You really are getting intelligent arn't you.

Well in terms of which brand I'm using the most, it would be Tediore. Mainly because with my Legendary Baby Maker SMG (Yes, that is the actual name of the gun) I'm smacking enemies for over one million every time I reload. Comes in handy when I farm Terramorphous.

If you used more than one shot, you weren't using a Jakobs!
Unless you missed the first time :p

No I use Jakobs mostly, typical weapon slots are

-Jakobs Sniper
-Jakobs Shotgun
-Jakobs Pistol
-Maliwan SMG

I usually carry a Maliwan Sniper of all available elements in my SDU as well.

I like Vladof for my rifles and Jakobs for my pistols. Tourge makes a nice shotty too. As for the fourth slot, I usually keep an SMG, but the brand of it doesn't matter much to me. I had this one SMG from the irish gang dude, and it did slag and shock damage. Used it for the whole first playthrough.

I have been mostly using Torgue, but that's because the assault rifles and shotguns are the best that I've come across. I do like how the Tediore guns do that exploding thing when they reload.

I use whatever is best for my level at the time I find it. Mostly that's resulted in a lot of Maliwan sniper rifles, a couple of Vladof ARs (they look and feel like AK 47s, no frills, just simple and reliable) and at the moment, a bandit shotgun. But I have no real brand loyalty.

I definately do NOT like Tediore though.

I miss Atlas. I liked wielding the power of the gods in my hands.

But then of course, they were going down the drain by the last game. Their leader was a five year old and they were run by incompetents and suicidals.
