Yay, a game I'm looking forward to for once (that isn't Total War)!

But I really wanna play online with a few others...But, how will this work? Will there be a battle.net thing, or must I have the IP of my friends like in the old days (and what if I don't have any IRL friends that want to play?)
How did it work in the old game?

The old game uses an on board Gamespy client, quite decent for what it is.

You added your friends Gamespy ID and someone creates the game lobby and then it went from there.

Not sure if there was something there to play with randoms or not, so I cant help ya with that one.

The old game used GameSpy, so you had to have a separate GameSpy account to play the game online. Then you would either join a random game or search for a friend's account name, and since GameSpy is about as obsolete as Games for Windows Live, that's not something most people would be able to recall easily.

Borderlands 2 uses Steam, even if you bought a physical copy - while that's a huge minus for some people, it also makes sure that the game uses Steam's netcode. I'm assuming it's much the same system, but using Steam's much better (and much easier) system.

Alright, but how will the random-system work? And if using a random PUG (Pick Up Group), do you "roll" on loot or is it first-grab first-get?

Damn Steam is always getting in the way of online gaming!

Oh well. I guess theres bound to be a way to get around Steam BS eventually.

I haven't heard much about it but I imagine/hope they use a similar system like Diablo 3 where you only see your own loot drop.

2nd one plays like the first in that you can end up at separate points in different quests, however if someone is ahead of you and you beat that quest, it counts as a beat for you as well. So when you do get to the point, it will ask you if you want to skip it all together. Your also thinking too much MMO, there is no PUG, more of who's game your playing, and loot is first come first serve though there is ways to trade with other players.Though this game is best played with friends who you can work this out with.

This trailer here explains most of it, quite thorough

You should know better than to speak against the mighty valve. Valve is good for you, citizen.

Anyway, I would be much more annoyed if this game had no dedicated servers than whether or not it uses steam, though that is a negative.

I dont have anything aganist VALVE itself. I think its a pretty cool company (Althougt I am not sure if the BEST OF THE BEST, but it might just be around there) Its just Steam what I personally hate. I have never got used to its... invasive behavior. And I just plain dont like it...

Whatever, when Borderlands 2 comes I am sure this all will be just a minor detail.
