I noticed that as well, but it was hardly a reference. I thought it was more of a coincidence.

Fact: any game, movie, book, so on, that tries to sell itself on being funny by directly saying somthing is suppose to be funny (quote: "you will be met by a FUNNY LITTLE ROBOT") will fail to do so.

Exactly. I honestly thought he was much funnier in the promo videos than in the game itself. In fact, all of the promo videos were very funny but when I got the game, there was a surprising lack of humor.

But it was published by 2K games, Bioshock's publisher, and the game is full of references to practically everything.

Also dialogue in a published form is very deliberate, I'd be more surprised if it wasn't a reference.
