Now, I recently got and finished Borderlands. After a moderately hard 1st play through, I decided to try out play through 2, gleefully thinking I'll slaughter everything, and have a jolly old time.

Holy Jesus mixed with sweet potatoes.
This is hard.

This is very hard, and you know what? That's good. Games like Prototype give us a new game+ with all our skills, and it's an easy game the second time through, the only difference is that they don't scale up the difficulty. What I'm saying, is why don't more games make harder New game+ modes? Borderlands has the right approach, give you the game with some difficulty, and once it knows you're in for the long haul, because you want the best damn gun you can get, it gives you a great big whack over the head and sets everything to 'kill you' difficulty.

Sorry if I'm not making sense, but if anyone understands my rambinglings, what are your opinions and thoughts?

Now I'm off to watch 300, so responses may be a little late.

Really? I'm having a piss easy time. My 130-clip assault rifle of infinite deathness can drop most groups of enemies without having to reload, and that's now 12 levels below me :p

I love ol' Mabel. It's gonna be a shame when/if I find another Combat Rifle with an absurdly extended clip...

Most modern gamers only replay games when they're trying to get achievements. Therefore, adding in a New Game Plus that doesn't actually account for your endgame skills and weapons allows the player to breeze through and snag those spare achievements doublequick. It's sad, but it's what the self-proclaimed "core" gamers want; play it once, maybe play it once more to get any missing achievements, shelve it, never play it again.

I blame trade-ins.

Ah, all I've got is a decent shotgun. I need a better shield, but I refuse to use anything without some form of health regeneration.

Borderlands is fantastic so far, i agree that it is hard second time round, though. I have a repeater that never runs out of ammo, and never needs to reload, called "the dove" its awesome, feels like im cheating.

New Game + is a reward. Any difficulty change should be optional when you select you want to play the NG+.

The only reason I often play a NG+, is to ruin V.Easy enemies with my level 100 character.

Ahh, I managed to pick up a purple level 31 Panacaea shield - 689 shields and quick health regen.

Also, quick retcon on my gun. I thought it was level 32... it's 24. My gun is 20 levels below me, and still reliably killing enemies :p All hail S&S Munitions!

Hmm, I haven't played Borderlands, but I might pick it up. Till then I can't say much.... Which begs the question why I bothered to post.

Boredom?

Another in the long list of things Borderlands does fantastically.

Love this game so much.

I'm doing playthrough one again with Brick and I'm finding it way tougher than I did with Roland...

In the Shock Crystal cave, at level 15, I came across a skag den with six alphas, a badass fire skag and a badass shock skag...

At level 15????

Maybe the levelling AI crapped out or something.

That was some tough shit.

I found a purple Healing shield when I was lvl 8. It essentailly healed my entire HP in like 8 seconds.

But now what I do is, that I swap my shields in combat. I'd have a stupid high capacity and fast recharge shield, and if they can take a third of my HP I drop my useless senty (IMO) run, heal up, and when I'm healed I'll swap to my uber fast and uber high capacity shield and tank it.

I'm a solider, and I rush with my elephant gun. Run bitches! I Got your Head! Bwuahahaha Run like the chikens you are! *Smiles greatly* lvl 23 in 13 hours, thanks to my uber shield and a terrible mouse :p

Either that or the AI figured you could handle it with Brick =P.

I found it rather useless too until I levelled up its damage... then it became invaluable.

Most annoying enemy in the game? Rakk.

The turret is so good at killing them, it's like a way to just skip fighting them entirely. (I hate them that much)

Also once you unlock the elemental crystals and have your turret firing corrosive death bolts into the later armoured enemies, you'll wonder what you ever would have done without it.

Once you meet the Crimson Lance you'll know what I mean...

That ain't a mistake - I played through that area today in Playthrough 2 and it had maybe 8 Alphas and 6 Badass Shock Alphas. I'm pretty sure it was the same area you're talking about. All of them around level 38/39, and I was 42. Sure, I was a few levels higher, but those Shock Alphas are no joke.

And I totally agree with the OP, I'm totally loving Borderlands, and playthrough 2 is amazing fun. Right now, trying to clear out the racetrack in the Dahl Highlands is proving to be massively more difficult than the first playthrough.

For me, the reason why Playthrough 2's better is because it's harder - and the reason for that is because I leveled up so fast in the first playthrough that I was stupidly overpowered for all the enemies I met. Because I'm such a high level, the leveling up has leveled out and the enemies I'm coming up against are actually scaling up to me pretty consistently.

If there's one thing I can complain about with Borderlands is that I've killed 1800 something things with my assault rifle, and only 400 with my SMG - but somehow my assault rifle proficiency is 20 and my SMG proficiency is 21. I don't understand how that happened...

Can anyone tell me how to go through a second time?
I beat the final boss(I hate that thing so much), but then it just put me back where I was after the credits.
I'm so confused...

You mean you found a decent high level SMG? I'm jealous.

I have yet to find an effective one that's anywhere near the combat rifles.

I seem to utterly suck with shotguns so don't use em, though the Boomstick was a nice reference.

I think just hit pause, exit and start new game 2 will be on your start menu.

Not sure though

Same here. I actually used berserk to run away, for a lot of that cave.
