Fans were angry at the lack of a certain giant squid at the end of the Watchmen movie. Little did they realize that the only reason it didn't appear was because Gearbox stole it for Borderlands.

Considering the game pretty well revolves around loot, having a final boss that drops a bit of cash, some ammo, and a craptastic pistol thats worse than an average C-Lance handgun just doesn't fly. It's like beating Oblivion and only getting some mediocre armour set..oh wait...

Yeah, I knew they were going to throw somehing like that, but still.....
The boss was so easy! You took some cover behind the pillar, shoot the bastard for 10 seconds, take cover again, repeat 100 times.

And what was up with that Claptrap at the end?

With so many people being surprised by this ending I'm starting to think I was the only one who expected Pandora's Vault to contain something unpleasant.
I was expecting something unpleasant. But I was expecting a challenge too.

I think my rage was due to the combination of no loot, no challenge and no fun.

Then I went back to start my second playthrough. And loved it. Borderlands, for me, is so much more about the journey than the destination.

It is just the lack of reward. Space Squid is one thing, but a measly two hundred thousand dollar reward for killing it? I wanted some guns!
For great guns it's much easier to game the system in new haven :)

There's 5 chests in town(including 2 red high-end ones), no enemies or obstacles (other than jumping around), just loot them, teleport and repeat ad nauseam until you get the guns you want.

...kinda broke the game for me though.

Oh, and yeah the ending sucked.
Are they all in the town proper? I've only seen two chests in town, and all the others are hiding in the scrap piles guarded by bandits. Also, I think the patch that just came out broke the farming somewhat. You can still do it, but you need to exit your session and start the game over again. No fast travel exploits.

Wow, 3 minutes? I played this in co-op with a friend, and the moment the boss opened his mouth I gibbed him in about 4 crits. Seriously, the fight lasted no longer than 20 seconds.

Anyway, yeah, it sucked ass.
I was soloing it, and for some reason, as soon as the Crimson Lance portion of the game started, I began getting the shittiest guns imaginable. So I had to take down the bastard with an SMG that I got around level 25.

Yeah, they're all in town, requires some jumping though.

Yeah, I think Gearbox is trollin'.

Can you think of a superior ending? I could not- the Vault has been built up the whole game. There's no way that anything could live up to the expectations.
Personally, I think the Secret Armory did.

Get Knoxx, that is the true end to Borderlands.

i thought the ending was brilliant in a bizzare kind of way, now hear me out first, and look at it from this perspective. If you though you were disapointed with the ending, how do you think the characters in the game felt story wise? all of their hard work pursuing a myth they heard in childhood involving a vault stacked with riches and it turned out to be all for nothing

The end is a classic example of preparing to unleash a hail of DLCs.
The latest DLC, Claptraps Robot Revolution actually continues the story.
They're still making DLC for it? Fair play.

You know I expected there to be nasty surprise when I first open the vault. Ancient evil, vault guardians, space vaginas, what have you. But my problem was that there was no actual reward for defeating said monster. In the end all of my grinding and gun hunts were for nothing. Its like finding the end to the rainbow but there's no gold just a leprachan who kicks you in the nuts.

"it's all about the journey, not the destination..."

Plus, you have a second play-through and DLC that you keep your weapons through.

Gah! I'm sure everyone else who played Borderlands knows what I'm talking about. However, I'm late to the party, so here goes.
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT ENDING!? Seriously! All the buildup for THAT!? A FUCKING SPACE VAGINA?! I took it down in three minutes of sustained SMG fire at its chest. And then the Guardian Angel turns into a satellite? And then ClapTrap goes interplanetary robot ninja assassin? And cut to credits. No guns, piss poor reward, barely any experience, and nothing left to do on Pandora.

Granted, I haven't played through the DLC yet, but that is a fucking ridiculous anti climax.
I lol'd hard when I saw this post, mostly because I saw it coming. :D

I was the exact same when I completed it, I could have eaten the disc at that point in time. Although I still went and almost completed a second playthrough and DLC, as well as getting to level 50.

The ending wasn't the worst part, it was the random people who stole all the good loot while playing online.
This guy knows where it's at. Middle of fight looting is also the worst.
"Hey! I wonder what's in this red chest?"
"I'm dieing over here!"
"Hold up, animation sequence."
"DOWN, I AM NOW DOWN. THANKS TO YOU."
"Cool, a super powered [gun that you use]. I bet that will sell for a lot."
[Player] quits, the monsters of Pandora weaken

Actually, I absolutely love it. You're being misled the entire game by money and treasure by Hyperion (who is seemingly aware that there's nothing in there) that is using you to snuff out their biggest rival Atlas, I would have been really disappointed if they had have given you all the guns, money, and pat on the head saying, "Well, there's your happy ending you mindless twit." The DLCs do wrap some story up, especially the ninja claptrap.

As for the boss fight, yeah it's easy but the entire game was easy. Hell, if you were weapon farming like I was, I had a 188 (x4) SMG that killed almost anything in six shots.

After you kill the thing in the Vault, Dr. Ned, Knoxx and Claptrap, the real battle begins. Farming Crawmerax for pearls. And trust me, once you hit 69 that is all you ever do!
Yeah, pretty much this. Though you can actually hit 69 before beating Knoxx and do the farmory glitch, which works well for pearls and legendarys without actually having to kill Craw. Sadly, I learned about the glitch after I beat Knoxx. :/

THIS.

Kind of....

Knoxx continued the plot nicley, and Robo Revoloution almost, kinda, sorta, a littlebit wrapped it up.

Yeah, you were only safe if you played with people you knew, and then you STILL got into loot arguments.

With building up something like that; it needs to either meet the expectations or it needs to go in the other direction and be absolutely shitty or totally empty. It would have made more of a point if the legend had been a total fabrication built up by years of escalating rumour. And it was built on an exculpating legend, it was doing pretty well. The problem is they put in something that was meh. It was meh because it seemed like it was supposed to be an enemy that was genuinely impressive but it fell short.

Still I enjoyed the game over all and I?m not going to hold the mishandling of the ending against them too much.
