OK, so this is going to contain spoilers for practically every moment in the game. If you haven't seen the game from intro song, to the credits song, get out now.

So i have decided that Borderlands gains the not so coveted title of confusion-ware of the century. This game somehow managed to go from start to finish without answering a single question. Not one. Lets recap what wasn't answered in the game.

Who are these 4 shrubs?
Why is a man who owns all the vending machines on the planet driving a bus?
What are the claptraps actually for?
Why does Fyrestone have only one citizen, and a whole morgue full of bodies?
Why is the key to Headstone Mine 40 miles away? Does no one go in our out?
Why does sledge have an Eridian artifact?
What happened to Helena Pierce's face?
What happened to Patricia Tannis's dog?
Who, or what, are the Eridians?
Why did the Eridians build a vault?
Are the guardians guarding the vault? Or trying to kill whats in it?
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING?!?! No seriously, what.... the.... fuck....was that.
What was in the vault?
Why didn't they just destroy the vault?
Why did a Hyperion Satellite have an AI in it that knew about the Vault?
What?

So none of these questions are actually answered. Why? I have no idea but its been bugging me for days. This game seems content leaving us in the dark about.... EVERYTHING.

Can you think of a single thing that actually was answered in this game?

I think Patricia Tannis's dog was the little skag with the sweet collar that you rescue for Crazy Earl.

I also think maybe Zed killed everyone in Fyrestone because he is a fucking psycho, god I hate his lines. "I don't have a med school degree, but you'll be happy I'm here when you get shot."

Fucking pretentious prick. I hate Zed.

Thats what i'm thinking... i hope New Haven doesn't turn out the same.

Who are these 4 shrubs? They are mercenaries, people out there mainly for the money but they all have a reason to be there aswell. I think one of them lost their sisters. One is looking for more of their kind and so on

Why is a man who owns all the vending machines on the planet driving a bus? Because the more people he brings onto the planet to find the vault the more people buy from his vending machines and Zed actually owns alot of vending machines

What are the claptraps actually for? They are guides to the planet, there for help.

Why does Fyrestone have only one citizen, and a whole morgue full of bodies? ..What?

Why is the key to Headstone Mine 40 miles away? Does no one go in our out? I dunno

Why does sledge have an Eridian artifact? Because he has most likely found it or received it somewhere else.

Who, or what, are the Eridians? Iunno, maybe what was originally on pantera before the humans arrived?

Why did the Eridians build a vault? To save their secrets when they have died out

Are the guardians guarding the vault? Or trying to kill whats in it? Guarding I guess

What was in the vault? Most likely Eridian history.

Why didn't they just destroy the vault? Because it most likely contains eridian history.

Umm really... is it that hard to explain?

Who are these 4 shrubs? Obviously they're treasure hunters
Why is a man who owns all the vending machines on the planet driving a bus? He is a creepy business man as evidenced by his desire to help you sell whatever's in the vault. It would make sense that he runs more than one business.
What are the claptraps actually for? They're service robots... when they're alive and in the city they're running around doing maintenance and stuff.
Why does Fyrestone have only one citizen, and a whole morgue full of bodies? Fyrestone had more at one point but people kept on killing them. T.K. Baha would also be a Fyrestone citizen. Not hard to see when bandits invade the place every 10 minutes.
Why is the key to Headstone Mine 40 miles away? Does no one go in our out? Sledge took over the headstone mine and used it as his fortress. Of course he would want to keep people out. He obviously gave the key to the roid rage freak to protect it. See below.
Why does sledge have an Eridian artifact? He must have found / stole / killed someone for it. Why he needs to have it is never explained but probably something along the lines of people wanted shiny objects would suffice. Since he has this valuable object he would want to protect it.
What happened to Helena Pierce's face? This is not explained but do you need an explanation? It's a harsh wasteland environment filled with bandits and raiders. It's reasonable to assume that the head of a major town might get attacked at some point.
What happened to Patricia Tannis's dog? This one is not really explained, but once again, who needs it explained?
Who, or what, are the Eridians? They were an alien race that inhabited the planet.
Why did the Eridians build a vault? To keep the Destroyer from destroying things?
Are the guardians guarding the vault? Or trying to kill whats in it? They are guarding the vault to prevent it from being opened.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING?!?! No seriously, what.... the.... fuck....was that. Every game needs a last boss / enemy... he obviously eats planets or something evil for him to be locked away.
What was in the vault? The vault is just an inter-dimensional portal. It cannot be destroyed because only exists when it's open
Why did a Hyperion Satellite have an AI in it that knew about the Vault? I'm not sure that the woman was an AI, but that is definitely the unexplained part of the game is how she was able to communicate with you and who she really is.
What?

A lot of story elements don't quite make sense or go unanswered. But lets face it, you bought the game to shoot bazillions of guns.

I'll attempt to answer a few though.

Why does Fyrestone have only one citizen, and a whole morgue full of bodies? It doesn't have one citizen, it's just that only one is willing to show themself to you. Also, when you arrive the bandits are attacking so the population probably dropped a bit during previous attacks and Zed is left to play with the leftovers.

What are the claptraps actually for? Possibly to act as a helper to the citizens of each town/settlement or as personal droids for general tasks. Although they do all seem to have the position as your guide through Pandora to the vault.

Why is the key to Headstone Mine 40 miles away? Sledge stole the key and hid it in his safehouse, which I think is explained in the game. Although why he locked himself in the mine and got someone to take the apparently only key to his safehouse is unclear.

Why does sledge have an Eridian artifact? He's a bandit, he either stole it or was given it in exchange for not killing someone (then killing them). You could also ask why the Rakk Hive has/is guarding one.

Who, or what, are the Eridians? The beings that created the vault, an ancient civilisation that lived or occupied Pandora at some point in the past and seemed to die out or vanish.

Are the guardians guarding the vault? Or trying to kill whats in it? A good question, it could be seen as either way. The thing in the vault may have been the cause of the dissapearance on the Eridians and they created the vault to stop it coming back, allowing the vault to be opened every 200 years could serve as a way for them to try and kill the creature with any advancement in their technology over that time.

What was in the vault? Depending on whether the vault was made to keep things inside safe or to keep things in the vault to protect the outside, who knows? It could be a portal to their true homeworld or it could just be a prison.

Why didn't they just destroy the vault? They might not have known what would happen if they did. Destroying the vault might have just unleashed the creature inside. This would suggest more that they were hoarding something in there rather than using it as a prison, but anything is still possible.

Hearsay and deductive reasoning is fine and all but i'd still like to get a real explanation from the game for some of those questions, especially the important ones like why a Hyperion satellite was directing the player(s).

you didn't buy the game for the story, if you wanted story navigate your web browser to the nearest torrent site and download something called a movie any one will do, for you are quite easily satisfied.

so just get some friends, and shoot random enemies!

that's my idea for a story.

Dude, looking for a story in Borderlands is like listening to DragonForce for the lyrics. *repeats MST3K mantra*

Here is your answear to everything in Borderlands: You have guns, guns that shoot lightning, acid, rockets, other guns.

There are enemies over there.
They have better guns.
KILL THEY ASS.

But seriously, most of the questions just require a little thought. Besides the final part with the AI and such, but that was probably an intended cliffhanger for a sequel. Or just for the lulz.

A lot of those questions are answered in the game's manual, or the literature found in game. Just because the answers aren't shoved in your face doesn't mean they aren't there.
