Borderlands Story?

I am personally extremely excited to get my hands on Borderlands. My friends and I that play L4D together are going to get it to play together as well. I think it looks like a really well made FPS with a fairly unique spin on making it cel-shaded or cartoony or whatever. However, I am a little nervous about the story and how it will unfurl because we can play offline and online, so if one of us plays offline, then that person will naturally be ahead of the rest of us that play. I've heard it plays like an MMO, which may solve the problem by having certain quests be the main story quests. What do you guys think will happen with the story?

It's something about a vault with lots of food, or something like that. You're trying to find it, it's mythical, etc, etc.

Its basically about your character trying to find a giant stockpile of alien weaponry that many people have died searching for, thats about it.

Actually even though I wanted something deeper than that, it seems to fit the games mood DEAD ON.

You was born in a vault somehwere, and when you're 18 you leave to find your father who escaped earlier, and then you come across a little town with an undetonated atom bom-.... Oh wait, wrong game.

Anyway, can't wait to try this game out, it looks fun, and I love the fact that they used some original art style, the world need more of this.

The offline-online synopsis can prove to make some weird situations indeed, but I won't judge it before I've tried it.

This game is meant to be played as a rogue-like. It's just for hacking and slashing through some randomly generated dungeons for randomly generated loot. Nobody cared about the story in Diablo either.
