after looking at the Wikipedia page for Borderlands and several others, i believe this game is too good to be true, it couldn't possibly have the incredible amount of weapons (over 500'000), a huge open world which is randomly generated and finally no loading times apart from when booting up the game. (especially when it is being released on the Xbox 360) the game couldn't be that good.
How filled with bugs will it be? Also the fighting system will probably be crap.
If this game lives up to its promises it will be the best game ever, however.
It won't.

It looks ridiculous. But...maybe it's possible to do some of what they say they'll do.
The trailer looks promising though...

Oh yeah, I read a magazine article on this game.

It's not really 500,000 weapons, it's more like the combination of the possible variables involved could come out to 500,000. Say 5 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 = 500,000 combination but actually only 55 unique aspects. It's no more 500,000 weapons than Diablo.

Should be fun to try, though. It's basically what a post-apocalyptic automobile fighting game should be, and a random generated map for infinite replayability doesn't hurt either. If this was any yahoos making it I'd say they bit off more than they could chew, but Gearbox has made some pretty impressive stuff before, they could probably do this.

Games tend to get a LOT of hype before they come out,
and then when they come out, they get a lot of critisicm.
Why? Because they never live up to the hype.
Halo Wars won't live up to the first good Strategy game on the 360,
neither will this one.

and I'm guessing with "no loading time" it'll be glitchy, slow, and freeze a lot.

Man, randomly generated post apocalyptic world?

I... uh... Unh! Oh, god, yes!

Oh my, nerdgasm there.

Oh, research has revealed that it's not as randomly generated as I was thinking (towns and the general look of the map will always be the same), but still a good chunk is randomized. Something about caves and towers being random? First off, a modern first-person game with randomly generated levels is something I've been waiting for for a long time (and tried myself, but failed due to wild ambition (just like all my projects)). Then you have "towers." If these "towers" are what I think they are - basically like dungeons except they go up instead of down - then I love this game. Before I played it, I love it. Let's hope Gearbox doesn't end up shattering my dreams. (But I trust them not to, for now.)

They're actually up to 600.000 weapons now I think, they added alien parts or something.

Borderlands is one of the games of 2009 that I look forward to the most, despite the fact that there seems to be only one gameplay video out there, and I haven't read any news about the game in the past 3 months or so.

I love the setting, I love customizing things, and I love the engine. The only thing I'm still sceptical about is the character/class system. It seems that they've created three different classes, given them different names, but also given them set clothing and a set gender? I hope they include a decent character customization mode, because I don't see the appeal in having my RPG character look like everyone else's RPG character.

I do agree that it does sound/look too good to be true on some points, but I'm sure people will find a flaw somewhere.

It will suffer from Alone in the dark syndrome, and will most likely either fail or it will be the one of the best games of all time.
Which one is more likely?

Yeah when I first heard about this I thought that either they were trying to do too much and it would end up being shit or they would pull it off but it would take forever and by the time it came out it would be outdated. If it does end up coming out in 09 and turns out good I will be pleasantly surprised.

With the weapons, I was playing some weird demo on my PS3, and, I could tape glowstick to my gun.
So, with that,
IT'S A WHOLE NEW GUN
OMFG!

So really, their definition of 500'000 weapons could be... disturbing.
"Let's put grass on the pistol!"

Sweet! If this is anything like the hype it should be awesome. But can you customise the guns? or just find random ones that are never the same?

From what I read in a magazine article, the guns are going to be all about customization.
