So, I'm going to mix things up a bit.
Instead of me reviewing a game, I want you guys to review an idea I have for a game that I'm working on.

Firsty I'll start with I dont have much of a story line down yet, its under work, I'm mainly looking for feedback on certain ideas I'm going to be building the game around. Please be critical but not just say "thatz a stupid idea and youz a idiot" I'm doing this for fun.

Shall we start then?

Genre: 2d platform shooter with some more advanced physics and RPG elements.

Setting: War between robots and humans, cliche I know, but that might change. possibly a twist!

Storyline: You are a war machine that has been captured by the humans for experimentation so that they will be able to develop more effective weapons to be used against your kind. You manage to escape from your captors, but not without gaining valuable intel on the EMP weapon.

You will need to get your commications back online and upgrade yourself as you try to get this intel to the Overseer and save your brethen.

Game Features. As I said before I realy want to use a physics system, I want grenades and rockets to be able to blow through walls, roofs, and floors. To be used as cover and an interesting way to kill enemies.
A cover system, similar to the way gears has done it, ie: Pop out and shoot a bit before going back under.
I'd also like to put in some RPG elements, so you can specialize in what kind of weapons and tactics you would like to use. Sentry, High armor and heavy weapons, but not as fast and too large to be completely safe in cover. Assult Droid, Typical offensive unit, automatic rifles in your specialty. Lastly, the AL Knight, Melle range, high damage also has a sheild that you can use for cover.

I know it seems pretty ambisous, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

Lastly it'll be build with Java, for those of you wanting to know.

Oh, I thought you said boredom in primes, my bad.

Your game must adhere to the principle of More Dakka.

Robotic intel gathering suggests a hacking minigame, but I don't know outright what the best way to implement one would be.

Hacking? thats not a bad idea, would be pretty neat to do, maybe similar to the say they did it in fallout.

Also not exactly sure on what More Dakka is, does it just mean trigger happy?

Sounds like you're trying to cram too much into one game, but if can pull it off I reckon it'd be a good laugh.

More Dakka means excessive amounts to bullets being delivered by as many guns as possible being indirect proportion to awesomeness of combat.

awesome!

this proves why is is always more entertaining in an rts to use 1000 infintry than 10 tanks.

How about the twist being your on the robots side killing humans.

Storyline: You are a war machine that has been captured by the humans for experimentation.
Aha! you did it!

I'd also like to put in some RPG elements, so you can specialize in what kind of weapons and tactics you would like to use.
As long as the rpg elements are entirely "how do i customize my badass robot." and not "get experience for skills."

Anyways, i think this game sounds awesome. A 2d physics engine sounds like a lot of fun. and being on the other side of a cliche robot war for once sounds good.

Fallout hack game had nothing to do with hacking (i know it's not really supposed to but it really pissed me off anyway) to the slightest... at least find something more... well... that looks electronic without having word guess codes.
