"I will tell you the truth: You are all going to DIE."

So, you enter the Shadow World, meet this goofball that seems to be an empty suit of a weird bear mascot, and you rescue people from their Shadows cool. Later on, you find this one Shadow that...isn't very strong, but it has a tactical power allowing it to then anticipate moves and lash out strongly. The goofball releases some sort of hitherto-unknown power to stop the Shadow and he, comically, now looks deflated. Everything seems okay and fine, and then something the girl you rescues sets him off and suddenly...we have a problem.

Teddie, the SHADOW, has a fucking Shadow, and he is a doozy! Serious and steady inhuman voice, big yellow-glowing eyes, apparently great intelligence, and darkly amoral - a killer with a degree in philosophy. Battle starts. You have this dark hole in the floor and climbing out of it is the monstrous Shadow Teddie, a demon thinly-disguised as cartoon character with claws and power superior to Rise, whom you had been fighting the Shadow of earlier. In fact, he's superior to ALL of the other Shadows. He's a flipping monster and a good Wake-Up Call Boss.
For a game that has a fairly light tone (despite, you know, the murders) that particular character is pretty damn disturbing. In terms of the design it's definitely one of my favourites of the series.

I loved killing Sephiroph and he was a chump. Of course after dropping Ruby and Emerald he is beyond a joke.

All the bosses in Metal Gear Rising. Senator Armstrong was my favourite.

All the bosses in Bayonetta.

Grigori in Dragon's Dogma.

The Penetrator, Flamelurker, Old King Allant and Tower Knight in Demon's Souls.

Bosses in the Shin Megami Tensei games (particularly Hari-Hara in Digital Devil Saga 1).

Dark Aeons in Final Fantasy X.

The boss battles in the Super Mario Galaxy games.

Artorias in the Dark Souls expansion.

Bosses in the Tales Of series of games.

Most bosses in Final Fantasy games.

Most bosses in the Kingdom Hearts series (Fuck Ursula though).

The bosses in Castlevania Lords of Shadow (not the colossus ones though, they were just crappy platforming segments).

The bosses in the God of War series.

The two Argus class robots in the third chapter of Vanquish.

Colossus 13 in Shadow of the Colossus.

Rex vs Ray in Metal Gear Solid 4.

ornstein and smough was really good, don't know how many tries it took but it felt great afterwards.

the tower knight is also one that I love fighting, every time I make a new character in demons souls the thing I look forward to the most is beating him.

the man eaters were really fun going against with a magic build as well, just harden yourself and soul ray away.

also no idea if this really counts as a boss battle but I loved fighting the deviljho in monster hunter 3.
