I would not like new consoles, instead, I want all the games that I was fucking promised for the current consoles!

Seriously, as much as new consoles are needed, I really don't want to pay $600 for games that were supposed to come out years ago, especially if they're adding more motion controls and tablets.

I keep hearing that Microsoft is saying the new Xbox will be able to put out Avatar caliber graphics or whatever.

Now I've never seen Avatar so is that necessarily a good thing?

This seems quite interesting; http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Patent-Xbox-720-DVR-PVR-Record-media,news-13765.html There's a rumour that the next Xbox could have a DVR built in. It's just a rumour of course, but still.

knowing Microsoft, theyll probably do away with controllers for the next console, and they will announce that all releases will be kinect-exclusive...

seriously, though. i hope MS doesnt go freaking nuts with the Kinect garbage again like theyve been doing for the past two years.

as much as i love Halo and Gears of War (and as nice as Forza is) i would like something else either new or rebooted. and i dont want it to involve Kinect

In before people saying it's too soon.

It's not, if anything it's overdue.

The PC platform is suffering because of it (having to lower graphics in games in order to make it cross platform), and Console gaming is suffering from having to make graphical sacrifices in order to push dated hardware to keep a consistent graphical push, such as 720p only support, lack of anti aliasing, lower res shadows, and the game playing in thirty frames, rather than sixty.

Not wanting a new systems because of financial reasons is irrelevant, you can't stop progress at the end of the day.
you do know graphics aren't really that important to the over all game right? cause to be honest I'd rather they sacrificed graphics if it means the rest of it may not suck.

which they won't, it'll be all about the graphics again cause people are easy to fool like that.
so rejoice!! you'll get your pretty but empty cash in games.

So what new tech can allow for much better AI? Because that's what we need more than anything.
We already have that tech. It's right there in the Xbox 360 and PS3. Even moreso in the PC. The CPU power we have at our fingertips is more than enough I'm sure. It's just not so easy.

I don't really give a damn is PC is too powerful compared to consoles. Just let it be, graphics are at an acceptable level now, we need no more.

The PC should be more independient games-wise (which won't happen due to markets (pretty reasonable))

I'll wait until specs, prices and release line-ups are confirmed before getting too excited. Though I might not even bother with the next console generation as I've found myself migrating more and more to pc gaming recently. That is unless a new MGS is confirmed for the new consoles.

Didn't Sony say that the PS3 wasn't going anywhere less than a year ago? Also, I avoided this generation of consoles so I don't know if it has changed, do games still run at 30fps? The framerate issues and the lack of effective modding tools are key reasons I haven't gone back to consoles.

Well it's not like I have the cash for it, so I don't really care that much. It'll take even longer for me to get one of those (probably the PS4) if they're not going to include backwards compatibility.

Of course I'm still curious about what they're going to offer, how they're going to try to differentiate themselves from the PC platform and try to offer a unique service. I think that they'll sort of fail at doing that.

And no, I'd rather that happened later, AFTER this obsession with graphics settled down.
In a way it already is settling down, or to be precise, it's shifting. Just look at trailers for many upcoming games, I clearly notice that there's a way bigger emphasis on things like animation work, art design, lighting, that sort of thing. Things that can really set moods, increase immersion. They're not just going for super duper textures and higher polygon counts any more.

Awesome! That means old games will be even cheaper!
Heh, I didn't even think of that. This pleases my wallet.

Nah, they won't be that stupid.

They'll just make a cumbersome and unattractive controller as the alternative. >.>

Yeah, but they're going to start losing money again if next gen consoles leave them behind.

The PS3 was pretty nice hardware, but it's certainly dated now and stands to be even worse when a new gen of consoles comes out to compare it to. With rumoured prices not significantly higher than the current range of consoles, they will be forced to cut their prices to remain competitive, and may have an issue getting people to buy anyway.

I'm also unsurprised their longterm model won't be happening.

It's not confirmed, but I believe it. It's been my prediction for the last 2 years, so I'll go with it.
I can't believe people saying it's too soon. First of all it's only the announcement, they won't be out for another year at least.
Second, while I don't want to spend more on consoles, especially as I'll be moving soon, the ones we have are just too old. They're hindering the PC, they're hindering the developers from doing something truly massive (how did Skyrim work on PS3 again?) and they're getting old.

Yes I hate that graphics are more important nowadays and I don't support it in any way, but there's more to the power of consoles than graphics. The size of the world, the amount of voice cues and NPCs, AI, dynamically generated content. All of that requires better hardware than we have.

I guess, though I don't really understand how that works.

You put a DVD of Avatar into your Xbox and it can play it. Managing Avatar style graphics in a game is more of a burden on the Developer side, and actually putting that much time into character models would literally take forever and would probably come out clunky.

Edit: It's gonna be interesting this year. Times have changed since last year, and people have a better understanding of how gaming works. If they can't pull a huge profit off of this, it might show that console gaming is really starting to die.

These new Consoles have to match up with the top tier gaming PC's to stand a chance.

(how did Skyrim work on PS3 again?)
It didn't. or at least a good part of it. even aside from obvious lag problems there were other bugs which were big problems.

well last time I checked Nintendo barely broke even with the N64 and Gamecube at the end of their respective console generation so it isn't unheard of to release a new system at the cost of the less successful predecessor, that and Sony probably would want to get an edge in the next generation ( I mean Microsoft pulled that with the 360 by getting a year's headstart on the Wii and PS3)
