Braid Coming To PC

A Windows version of the hit Impulse [http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/catalog.aspx?d=6] digital distribution system on March 31, but PC owners are going to have to pay a little bit extra to get it.

Released in August 2008 on Xbox Live Arcade, the independently-developed Braid was a GameSpot [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/88349-Braid-Tops-XBLAs-2008-List-Nobody-Surprised] and sold an estimated 55,000 copies in its first week of release. The only real criticism of the game resulted from its price, which came in at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) instead of the more palatable 800 MS Points ($10).

Jonathan Blow, the game's developer, said the price point was necessary to "guard against the wrote on his blog [http://www.llamasoft.co.uk/frontpage.php]. "Well, that bit him in the ass because he only sold 19k copies; depending on how big his testing + localization advance was, maybe he has barely made any money from Space Giraffe at all, and just lost a lot of money (due to the time spent in development)."

Despite the fact that Braid is a big hit and Blow's concern about recouping his investment should no longer be relevant, PC owners who want in on the action are going to have to pay five bucks more - $19.95 - to get the game on their platform of choice. I've dropped a line to Blow asking why (Bonus stuff for the PC version? Extra charges for using Impulse?) and while we wait for an answer, you can learn more and place your pre-order at impulsedriven.com [http://www.impulsedriven.com/braid].

It was a great game, but idk if it's really worth the extra $5 unless there truly is bonus/ extra maps and potentially some online component (like Mirror's Edge) with time trials, etc...

Ah well, ?15,- is more than enough for this great game. I'm going to pre-order it immediately.

Oh wait, you can't pre-order with PayPal it seems.

Yeah he seems to have forgotten the Swedish Copyright Law effect.
Mind explaining to us what that is, I'm a bit lost on the joke. =/
Sweden has a notoriously loose copyright law, which is why the Pirate Bay is located there. Thus any attempt to prosecute the owners had to be done through Swedish Copyright Law and not US Copyright Law, which they meticulously did not violate. Because of the expansive power of the internet, anything that is available for download from a looser country (like Sweden) is thus available for download at a stricter country (like the US or UK). Thus by upping the price $5, Blow encourages people to pirate his game, as they now view it as a sort of PC-port Tax.

You've probably seen this by now, but for anyone else who comes across this, there was an update in a later article that it was dropped to $15. Hurrah!

I wouldn't have minded paying $20 for the game. $15 for a DRM'd up rental? Thanks but no thanks. I'll consider it when it hits $10 or rather $5; that's as much as I'm ready to shell out for a rental.
