Brand loyalty is when a person will preferentially choose one brand over another. In the case of video game developers it means buying new games put out by that developer on name alone. My question is do any of you have brand loyalty to any game publishers/developers and why.

For me it's Atlus. And it's because they are the shinning gem in todays bleak and depressing JRPG market. With a surprisingly good eye on what is good to bring over to the west.

Nintendo, or well, only the Zelda games. I don't even bother looking at reviews. I'm getting the new game no matter what. And I'll get the next game after that.

It might sound somehow, but I'm loyal to 3d Realms.
They might take ages to make a single game, but every single game they made was a diamond.

Oh,and I have some loyalty for Nintendo..
I might dislike some of their hardware decisions but as developers they are really good.

Bioware, Bungie, Bethesda... Maybe I just like things that begin with the letter B?

I'm an nVidia guy. They develop native linux drivers reliably. ATI, now AMD, seemingly can't be arsed to release linux drivers or help the community at all. Other than that, I'm not really attached to brands.

Sleep? Is that a new feature on the Escapist?
Yeah, it's the mode you can put on to conserve energy. :p But I guess you get enough energy from the endless amount of coke.

I only have one brand which I am loyal to and it's not a gaming company. It is the almighty Puma!

I have to say that I'm now a sucker for all things Fallout. After playing Fallout 3 I found myself wanting more and more.

I'm also quite fond of SquareEnix games just from Final Fantasy X. (Though I have to admit, X-2 was a bit too much of a...turn for me to digest.)

I'm going with fairly obvious choices here:

Bioware, Valve and Blizzard. Just because I have enjoyed every single game I've played from said developers.

I have no brand loyalty. I used to until I came to a stark realisation that game developers care about money more than customer satisfaction. I never buy based on a company's previous good games - I will also rent, look at gameplay or read reviews before even considering buying.

Short answer: no. Long answer: no, but I'll be more inclined to look into something that's from a publisher that has made past games I've enjoyed.

Sweet, ninja'd by OP. Also, I would add Cavia. I love the crazy, depressing games they make. I had no interest in Nier until I read in a review that it was a Cavia game. Sold.

I would also add Ubisoft to a limited degree. I won't just buy whatever they make, but I do enjoy the Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed and Prince of Persia games. Although the most recent PoP was disappointingly easy. Come to think of it, AssCreed is like a symbiosis of the other two, isn't it?

Valve and Doublefine have never steered me wrong. Everything I've played by them I've loved. Beyond that, I'm not sure there are any Bioware WAS like that but after DA2 I don't think they are anymore. Not to harp on it, but it WAS a good game, just not up to their previous standards.

Likewise there are a couple of developers I make an effort to steer clear of too. Bethesda, for instance. It's like after Morrowind they all decided to just release shit.

Uuuuuum... I think most companies get hits and misses, so sticking to a brand name may come back to bite you in the ass. That's how fanboys are born!

That said, Double Fine has never steered me wrong. GODDAMN, Costume Quest is addictive!
