seeing as how this is the escapist which means a large percent of us are gamers, since most of us play games then it is only inevitable that eventually we decide its time to stop playing by the rules and just see how much we can break the game we are playing. so today's question: what is the most epic way that you have broken a game. oh and details please!

Half-Life 2, I got realized the SPAS-12 was firing shells that only contained like, 6 pellets. That's bullshit. So I made it more realistic, and bumped it up to 12.

Then I got bored, bumped the pellet count up to 300, upped the damage to 3000/pellet, and happily called it the Clean Sweep.

'Cause you pulled the trigger and the path before you would be swept clean of obstacles. =D Even physics objects. I loved that thing. =D

I stopped playing.
That'll teach whatever company that made it that they can't control me!

Well broken by physically breaking was Rayman 2 and a boxing gloves on fire. That was awesome.

Breaking as in screwing with it was Call of Duty 4 on PC. Got all my friends together, all of us with Bad computers and poor internet, and when I announced on Skype we all threw our grenades into the same pile. We had turned our graphics up to the max and BOOM! Huge explosion, game freezes, un-freezes later, but it appears time is standing still. Grenades will hover in the air, Bullets will just be an Orange Line at the start of our gun and Knives are left behind in the air. To this very day, we have never done it again.

Oh and Half Life: Deathmatch. Make a huge pile of stuff and throw grenades into it. Every time, the third time I do it, I make what I call, "The Invisible Black Hole." You can not take anything out of the pile, and it will stay there. Anything you put in, will never come out. Impossible to do online, because it usually takes me about 3 times to get it right.

Calumon: I caused my Sackboy to turn into a Skeleton, somehow. Dressed him up like a leprechaun. ^^

On Fallout 3, I tried to take on the whole of Megaton. With my fists. With about 10 unarmed skill.
Stupid Moriarty had to come along and screw everything up by killing me.
Jerk.

I've set up my characters in Final Fantasy XII to fight in a loop with gambits against an enemy that kept spawning little enemies.
I left that on overnight, and had them maxed by morning, because I was just plain sick of the game.
Also the item duping trick in Oblivion...I actually figured that out without reading it on the net. Had fun launching as many watermelons as I could.
And in Morrowind I opened up the editor and made my own house in the first town that was actually named "My House" and set up the interior so I had a place to store everything I collected.

I broke Oblivion. (Tsh, not that hard, really.)
You remember that Refrence bug? Where the game simply runs out of space for all the everything on-screen and it makes all the new items you make disappear, bricking the save permanently? How with vanilla 'blivyun, you're supposed to only encounter it after say, +1,000 hours on a single save?
I got it.
I got it when my total time playing the game with all my characters was less than one-hundred hours.

I did a similar thing with a Pokemon gold version; it bugged out bad. strange pokemon would appear and disappear from my posession, I randomly stopped having badges... when I fought someone with a glitch pokemon, they would die, I would white out, then I would have beaten them...

Or how about that time on an MMORPG, when I created what the GMs called, "Black holes." The first one made GMs crash whenever they came near, and another made me crash when I came near.

There are even more stories.
Do you believe me now that electronics absolutely despise my very being?

First thing I did when I played the Forza 3 demo was try fuck up the car as much as possible. From breaking the drive shaft by accelerating all the way up to 5 gear then dropping the gear to first. Or by having it set with manual w/clutch, and then not using the clutch. It just crunches like fuck when you change gears and eventually breaks the gearbox completely.

And then of course their is the classic seeing how awesome the car damage is by driving the opposite way to everyone else and trying to destroy them. I can't think of a single driving game I haven't done this in.

In Persona 4, I guess.

I hit level 99 before killing the last boss, I got the best items by killing the Reaper solo several times, got the best Persona (Helel, repelling all attacks except for Almighty, plus the most powerful melee and magic plus Victory Cry - 100% HP/SP after fights) AND I got the Omnipotence Orb, negating all attacks except for Almighty.

I could probably solo the final boss without problems on Expert. And I think I'll just do that.

I found a glitch in Sonic 2 that causes the game to crash. If you hit the Sonic robot at just the right (or perhaps wrong) angle during his dash attack (The second attack he uses), the game will crash.

But my favorite is in the GoW3 demo. I got the version that was on the District 9 blu-ray. At the part after the 2nd harpy-jumping bit, you fight in a corridor against a load of goons. After that, you climb up the wall and shimmy along the edge before murdering an innocent dude who is in your way.
When you reach the part where you have to shimmy along the wall take out the Cestus and run towards the edge. If done right, you can run along the edge you normally have to shimmy along. If you grab the guy after the O icon appears over him, it puts you how you are supposed to be. If you do it too soon, you do a regular throw murder. The guy will be gone, but his screaming and invisible wall will remain.
That glitch is fixed in the full-version, but try it out in the demo version for some laughs.

On the Sims 1, you could indefinately stack dirty plates. I made one so high that it went off the screen in NEIGHBOURHOOD view

I've climbed out of plenty levels, which is always funny

...there's a cheat on Evil Genius which causes (when CTRL+S is pushed) a MASSIVE explosion from underneath your crusor.

When I got bored, I would use another cheat (which gave me 1 of every minion type and 1 of every henchmen (even though you're only allowed 1 of each henchmen, what with them being individual human characters and all). I had a bajillion million men, and I sent a thousand-billion (exaggeration FTW) to each territory and robbed enough gold to rebuild the entire planet from the stuff. ALL the alliances sent ALL of their best troops. I recalled ALL my minions, and we had a full-out pitched battle on the island, where millions died. Every time a henchman was killed, I'd let off an explosion on that point (a lá 'hero pulls the last grenade on himself to take enemies with him')

It was the most epic thing to every exist on a management Sim

I realized that Uncharted 2 had about as much use as a Frisbee.

So my dog got a new Frisbee.

It was more fun than the game itself to be honest. Broken now tho.
