I just stayed up all night lying on my bed in pain, bored out of my mind, so I wanted to make a thread.

So yeah. Breaking Bad.

After hearing how good it was from several sources, I decided to check it out.

Woah.

I mean, seeing Hal from Malcolm in the Middle.. in this was weird as fuck. Such a different role, it's weird!

Anyway, discuss the show. Favorite characters, moments etc.

Now I'm only on season 3, so please, spoiler any stuff further on, or I'll hurt you :3

My favorite character is definetely Saul Goodman. He's hilarious.

This season at the moment is the first one I've watch whilst it's been airing, and I basically watch the rest of it back to back it was so addicting.

Can't remember who's alive, what state Walter is in and what's happening in Season 3 though, can say I found the first season to be a brilliant opener though. I've been trying to recommend it to all my friends that ask for TV series to watch, not heard back from anyone yet though.

I'm also really glad this is the last season, meaning the story is going to get a decent closure and not just go on forever until it ruins itself, which is something I tend to absolutely despise in a lot of American TV.

Pretty much the closest I've seen of the show is Ukinojoe's parody of it:

Beyond that I've never seen the show. I heard it's pretty good though.

EDIT: Currently watching the first episode via Youtube. Looks good so far. Alas, I'll have to watch the rest of it tomorrow. As I am sleepy.

Breaking Bad is the best show ever. It's four seasons and one episode in and still hasn't had a single episode that I'd describe as mediocre. It's ridiculously good. I don't even usually like to hype things up like that, but Breaking Bad is one example I feel holds up to hype.

Season 3 was great. It's finale was one that had me cheering in joy and then feeling really bad about what I was cheering for the very next moment.

For this season...it sucks. I'm gonna have to torrent the season since my provider (Dish Network) dropped AMC from it's lineup over some kind of dispute. AMC streamed the first episode online, but said that's a one-time only thing. So yeah...I guess I'll be watching crappy online versions. Way to dick over paying customers, Dish.

Favorite characters. I don't know. It's not really the kind of show that I'm consistently liking characters. The most surprisingly good one is Hank. I thought I was going to hate that character when I first started watching the show, but he's turned out to be pretty damn great.

Haha yeah Frank is great. It's like you know he's the bad guy trying to catch Heisenberg, but yet you really like him.

The instant I knew the show was something special was when episodes 2 and 3 of season 1 almost purely dealt with cleaning up the mess that had been made at the end of that first episode. I just assumed that Jesse and Walt would magically find a way to dispose of the bodies and clear any incriminating evidence from the RV between episode 1 and 2, and then they'd be off on some new adventure at the start of the 2nd episode. But nope, they were going to have to deal with the mess they made and we as an audience were going to have to watch them deal with it, and I just loved the realism of that. Of course, then from season 1 onwards it just kept getting better, with the second half of season 4 in particular just being unbelievably good...

I love the show to death, but Skyler makes me rage. I'm sick of writers making every other female character passive aggressive as if it somehow makes the character "deep". She is just such an unsympathetic character and really has become almost as insignificant as Walter Jr as a result.

Haha, you're right. For some reason, nearly every female character in Breaking Bad pisses me off XD The exception would be Jesses girlfriend, she was an interesting character.

And to OP: I thought that season 3 was a little boring. Season 4 is great, so look forward to it.

So I just watched the first episode, and I must say, it was pretty good.

Question though:

Does Walter's son have cerebral palsy? Just curious.

He does (as does the actor who plays him). I don't think they ever say it outright, but it's pretty obvious.

I had no idea he had it IRL as well! I just thought he was good at acting like it. That is very interesting.

OT: I wonder how this season will go.
They've killed their distributor, Saul want to stay out of the mess, their only professional contact with the drug community want to murder them. It's not like Walt and Jesse can just start cooking again... I think this season will be very interesting and different from the others.

Thought that might be good to share.

I think the cooking takes a back seat this season. There might not even be any of it. Walter is going to fall big in some way. He has to. While he's not as in control and untouchable as he thinks he is (not even close. Remember how terrified he was in those last few episodes before the finale last season? He should really be that scared all the time), he's still a monster. He puts his family at risk. He uses them. He acts in his own self-interest no matter who else gets hurt in the process. He freaking poisoned that boy last season who Jessie cared about, then lied to Jessie. And now he's so full of hubris that he stomps around threatening whoever he wishes. He's the villain at this point, but not because "He's the one who knocks". He will hurt others without a regret, but he's more dangerous because he's a walking natural disaster.

I think we'll have one of three potential outcomes:
-He winds up dead, having finally not been able to wriggle his way out of a situation. Or the cancer gets to him (he's still sick, after all).
-He gets caught and imprisoned.
-He gets caught, but without evidence available to convict him. But he's exposed and powerless. So he basically has nothing but shame.

I really care more for Jessie at this point, and have for a long time (maybe even since the beginning). I want him to finally get a fresh chance.

It was weird to see him without his crutches :p

I do not really look at Walter as the villain, although I probably should, as you raise many valid points. That is pretty much all I have to say. Can't wait to see what happens in this season.

Its the best series i have ever watched, its constantly challenging morality, and while you agree with one character in one instance you may not agree with him in the next, the characters are deeply flawed and conflicted within themselves.

I've only ever seen the first episode, and despite it's material it somehow engages you like nobody's business.

I'm always a bit hesitant with these HBO series. I loved The Sopranos, but Madmen and Boardwalk Empire left me totally cold. So I was a bit on the fence regarding Breaking Bad, but after that first episode I might have to check it out.

Breaking Bad is easily the best TV show ever, in my opinion. I'm really looking forward to when Hank takes down Walt like a boss (presuming that happens, of course).

I'd say Jesse is my favourite character, perhaps solely for 'Yeah *****, MAGNETS!' [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwVDDxoKBk4]

Breaking Bad and Mad Men are AMC, actually. That channel has really stepped it up in quality shows the last few years. And then Dish Networks decides to try to make it a premium channel like HBO, gets into a dispute with AMC about it, and then they drop the channel from their lineup altogether and force me to go online to watch episodes.

Sorry...still raging about that.

The end to Season 4, those final 3 episodes were far and away some of the best episodes of TV I've watched. Especially the end to Episode 11...
where Walt has his breakdown in the crawl space. Cranston deserves to win an Emmy for that scene alone. Got chills in those last few minutes, the music, the laughter, the phone call ringing, so damn good.

Season 5 is just as excellent, this show is hitting it out of the park with every episode.
