Well, that may be the final straw for me if this means two separate charges every month. As it stands the streaming service (Netflix side) is lacking content and will get worse come February when they lose Starz content. On the DVD rental service (Qwikster side), I have been getting too many unplayable discs the last few years. More than I ever have at an actual video store.

Together the two are passable but once you separate them, neither seems worth it. Does that make sense? I may be getting off the Netflix boat soon I guess, let's see how this plays out.

Also, the Qwikster division will now be renting video games for a separate fee.

I think the main purpose to splitting into two companies is to sell Qwikster eventually. Probably try to swallow up Gamefly to increase the value of Qwikster.

If this means that they're expanding their streaming service, I'm all for it.

But seriously, if they continue to keep so much of the quality content exclusively on DVD, you can count me out. Netflix streaming is useful for TV shows, but movies are just hard-to-find on there.

It's still cheaper and better than paying for cable TV... which I can't understand why anyone does. Just not so keen on paying $40+ per month to watch mostly commercial advertising.

It's all about perspective. Here in New Zealand and I guess many places around the world you can't even get Netflix. We also get the television shows from America and the UK, about a year or more behind unless it is a really popular show. Glee, American Idol, Next Top Model and X Factor. You know, all the great ones. Yet when we try to download them we can get fined up to $15,000 and have our internet disconnected. Kinda sucks.

Of course if I had perspective I would be glad that I had the internet and was not starving in a Somali refugee camp.

Shit.

Yeah, agreed. And even more so if Hulu is available in your area too. I don't have cable, yet I keep up with my shows. I do miss baseball games, though. But I can go to a bar or a friend's place to catch those.
