Who are your favorite British novelists/British novels? I'm personally looking for a horror.

I'll agree with Furburt in that Iain Banks is a fecking genius. I've only read his sci-fi myself, but those are excellent also.

If I have to read Pride and Prejudice one more godamned time in a college course I'm going to kill people.

From what little I have read I'm rather fond of Pratchett.

Terry Pratchett is my favourite, I am planning of reading all of the discworld books by the end of next year.

Iain Banks The Wasp Factory is one of the most disturbing novels ever made. A glimpse into the mind of a maniac.

I absolutely love the works of James Herriott but that's more biography than novel I think...

Pratchett, hands down. He certainly doesn't write horror though.

ooo at the moment i love Phillipa Gregory series on Henry VIII wives.
Irvine Welsh is pretty cool, trainspotting is a must read although the phonetic style is annoying at first.
