This thread is an ego trip.

How so? The OP isn't British, a quick check of his profile reveals he is an Australian.

OT: Because us Brits, at-least the middle and upper classes, have a certain style that makes us likeable even when we are evil. How else did a tiny island manage to form the largest empire ever known? ;-)
I meant for me. I'm British so reading all of the comments about British people giving an aura of intelligence and what-not is good for the ego.

British people make the best villains. I think it's because they all seem to dress up in tailored suits and politely tell people that they're going to die.

Russians are the next best villains.

Americans...we're crazy all the time. It's kind of meh when they decide to take over the world.

1st post so apologies if I get this wrong.

OP: When you mentioned House of Cards there it sent a shiver up my spine.
I know what you mean about suave and class but Francis Urquhart is one of the nastiest pieces of work I've ever seen on TV, he's immorral, conniving, and generally a bad hat all round.

He starts wars, blackmails and kills political opponents and that was just on Mondays!
"To play the King" was good too!

Look on the bright side though, Austin Powers is a British agent and look at all the good he's done, not to mention his Dad.

For every bad British Villain, there's a good British Hero, just look at Mary Poppins.

That's because most British villians are magnificient bastards. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagnificentBastard

Yes, they're evil, but they're so damn awesome while doing it.

Yep, but even knowing you should hate him, I couldn't do it, he was "the bad guy" and he knew it, but he was just so stone cold awesome.

Haven't quite figured out how to do the quote things in reply (probably the beers I'd imagine)

In response to that tkioz "you might think that, I couldn't...."
