Question, is the UPD like the Combine? Could I get a little more background info so I can make my sheet. Are they police? Are the enforcing justice, or are they corrupt?

They are a number of things but none of them good. They are the an authoritarian military government. Efficient and Corrupt in every way possible. They only understand the language of money. In the galaxy their military branch vessels patrol regions to enforce their power, they bully everyone else into seeing their point of view and nothing else. If there is no profit to something they will eliminate it, if there is a profit and they don't own it, then they will try to control those who own it. It is structured into a military fashion, so you'll have the top brass to the lowly grunts and no one questions anything.
will that do?

Faction: Freelancer
Weapons: Combat shotgun and a pair of armored fists
Misc items: a hand held radio
Position: Security Officer
Bio: Born on Pegasus II in the Core Planetary Sector, Marcus was a spoiled kid. He lived in the cradle of the UDP civilization with his every wishes and desires attended to. One day, while at university studying Intergalactic Relations, he became curious about the Outer Rim planets and their cultures. He was startled to know that none of the libraries had any major record or history about the Outer Rim, nor did anyone he asked really care about the Outer Rim. Frustrated, he decide to travel to this mysterious region and learn for himself about what goes on in this distant part of the galaxy. He left the university and took a transport to the Outer Rim planet of Davos. There he learned of the UDP's oppressive control of the region and the galaxy and was appalled at how his own government was suppressing information and how they had treated their fellow brethren in the Outer Rim. He vowed never to succumb to the delusions of grandeur that the UDP had created for itself and set about starting his own life. He lived a simple life on Davos, learning about the culture and the people, he also began studying the art of self defense and mastered the martial arts as well as armed combat. He soon began looking for work in the security field. It was then when he met a man by the name of Alexis Delorme, a captain of the freighter called the Sakkara. He listened to the man's mission about living the life of a Freelancer and was offered a job as a security officer aboard his ship. Eager for the opportunity, Marcus agreed.
Alright, we have out team of 8!. 6 members of the Ship and 2 UPD members. The Trade Coalition had no applicants and so are a no-show. Now, here's how this thing is going to work.
The 6 crew members will start on the Sakkara, remember that you have been together as a crew so you are all familiar with each other, basically a small family. The 2 UPD members will start on a UPD ship, specifics will be sent to you via PM once the RP has begun. Remember at all time keep in character when posting. OOC comments go in a box and remember to be active. If you away without warning, then something awful will happen to your character.
Now the only thing left is getting underway. Don't post your intro posts till I have made mine. Speaking of, when do you all wish to start?. ASAP or do you need some time before starting?.

Captain's personal log- 15/5/2288 Log number-00256-3a
We are just passing the dwarf planet of Quaoar in sector 4 of the Core Planetary Region. We passed through the Aether belt a few hours ago with no major incident; this in itself was no small feat. It is becoming increasingly difficult to cross into UPD territory now, even as a Freelancer. Those scums in their infinite wisdom have placed strategic blockades with their Heavy Cruisers, detaining vessels for obscure reasons, looking for contraband and smuggling rackets. I thank my stars, that we have yet not being detained today. The inconvenience to our clientele would be the last thing we need. Though, I suspect, we were not stopped because of the cargo we are carrying at the moment. Our last bidder was from the Outer Rim swamp planet of Kojiki-Sado, where the local agricultural minister had requested that we transport 3674 units of livestock, specifically, 3674 units of Kestra's to the planet Omega I, in the Core Planetary Region. I may have not mentioned this in my previous log entry, but, Kestra's are probably the second foulest smelling thing in this universe. Not to mention they have a tendency to defecate every two hours. Once they show up on UPD scanners, I doubt even they would want to take inventory of our stock. If they weren't so foul in odor and didn't leave droppings all over the cargo hold, I would consider making them an honorary crew member. (Note to self: should assign a crew member to sweep the droppings off the floor. It has been over 4 hours)
According to Roach, we are less than 4.6 hours away from Omega I, I for one will be happy to get some fresh air, yet I find myself mulling over the past again. Seven years is not a long time in the annals of a Freelancer, why we are just infants of the stars in comparison to some other vessels in the business, but very few have gone where we have. To my knowledge only one other vessel apart from us, the Bragi, has ever gone to Ullr IX, the furthest planet in the explored Galaxy. A perilous journey even at warp speed, the strain on the ships systems and hull was immense, but the old girl took it in her stride.
The Insectoids that live on that ice planet are quite remarkable. They do make a fine Goulash and have the ability to hibernate for 286 years straight. Looking back, I am fortunate indeed to find the crew that I did; I surely would be lost without them.
Oh well, I am just rambling now. I must admit that my mind has been a clutter lately, ever since we received that UPD transmission yesterday I haven't been able to focus on much else. I shall attach the audio log here should I need to review it again;
Attention, Viking class freighter Sakkara! This is the UPD Heavy Cruiser Thantos. Our long range sensors have detected that you are approaching UPD territory. We have orders from UPD high command to rendezvous with you at your final destination of Omega I. At our current speed we shall arrive at your destination in 28 hours, once there we require your full cooperation. Admiral Troy, of UPD high command is on board and has urgent matters that he wishes to discuss with your captain.
Thantos, Out.
Channel Closed.
The transmission plays over and over in my head but I cannot understand the nature of this meeting. I for one have no love for the UPD and their ways, so this perplexes me to no end. Why send us this message on a secure frequency?. Are they keeping secrets from themselves now?. Who is this Admiral Troy and why does he want to talk to me?. Our documents are in order and this is a legal transportation of legal goods. Even if it wasn't, the UPD has the policy of "Shoot first and ask questions later", they never ask for a meeting beforehand. Well, whatever it is, it can't be good. Those people make my skin crawl. - A. Delorme
End of personal log.

Alexis rubbed his eyes as he tossed his digital log book aside. The low and continuous hum of the ships engines wafted into his cabin on the upper deck. They had been on the move for about three days and were ahead of schedule. Omega I, is a M class planet and is reckoned throughout the galaxy for having some of the best beaches in the known worlds. Up until yesterday, Alexis was looking forward for a few days of relaxation at the seaside along with his crew. Now though he was preoccupied about this pending meeting with the UPD. He let out a long and frustrated sigh as he flung his legs off the bed and walked into the bathroom.
Alexis emerged again, dressed in his usual black T-shirt and navy blue pants. Stepping into the hallway he made his way to the ladder leading to the lower deck. He was immediately greeted with the pungent smell of livestock and urine, followed by the incessant bleating of the Kestra. Gods almighty!. "Someone, check on those damn Kestra's and clean the Cargo bay while your at it" he called out as he made his way to the cockpit.
"Roach!" he called out to the man behind a series of instrumentation. "Our cargo is driving me nuts. The whole ship smells like a Braxian zoo, so please, are we there yet?"
"Sir" The crew member said nervously. "Captain said to tell you that we are approaching the Thanatos." Walter glanced at the young man. Previously, he had been staring at the wall, running his orders over in his head. "Very well" Walter replied evenly. "Carry on."
Walter knew that the crew of the shuttle taking him to the Thanatos disliked him. "The man's creepy" He had overheard one of them say. "He sits in his quarters all day, just sitting there. He's like some sort of machine." This remark might have amused Walter, had he had any sort of sense of humor. Instead, it simply gave him a vague sense of satisfaction. Walter figured that the comparison to a machine was fair. If not on a mission, he did very little but train for the next. Walter never interacted with others if he could not help it, realizing that due to his position, he might be called on to kill his acquaintances at any time and not wanting to identify with his victims.
In fact, Walter never made any effort to find out what, if any crimes his victims actually committed, not wanting to add a human element. "Transgressions against the UPD" worked well enough for him. Thus Walter did behave like a machine, killing when he was "switched on", and shutting down when he was "switched off". As Walter heard the shuttle dock with the Thanatos, he quietly gathered his clothes, computer, cuffs and weapons and exited the ship onto the Thanatos, not pausing to speak to anyone. Walter had his orders and he would follow them to the letter. "Why" didn't matter, only "what" mattered.
"Power room is clean and running at UPD standards Captain" Extra reported to the bridge via the intercom "Moving to the engines." Damn UPD regulations, it's going to take me days to get the ship recalibrated after this inspection, well, at least I'll have an excuse to stay away from Kestra duty for a while. Extra made his way down the maintenance corridors of the ship, while checking his mechanics log to see what else he had to prepare for the inspection. Power, check, sensors, check, life-support check, that leaves engines, weapons, hydraulics, landing, shields, and the warp drive... Looks like it's gonna be a long day. Extra didn't mind the work, he considered every moment fine-tuning the Sakkara a blessing. He finally reached the engine rooms control panel, and then radioed to the Helm " Hate to do this to you Roach but I'm gonna have to reconfig the engines to UPD specs now, I promise I'll get them back to the way you like 'em first thing after the inspection." Extra began the process of reconfiguration, when he was finished, he moved on to another part of the ship.
Great.. UPD inspection i hoped we'd have no contact with them. Issaria thought as she walked towards the cargo bay for kestra duty. "these things smell as bad as ever. I would almost wish for a combat situation so I'd escape this stench" she mumbled as she began cleaning.
When she was done with it she radioed to extra "Hey extra are the weapon systems calibrated yet? I don't want any trouble with the UPD besides it'd get me out of the next kestra duty." she then went back to the bridge.
Roach looked up from his instrumentation as the Captain walked in. "Ah, mon capitaine!" Roach exclaimed with a smile, "Not exactly, we are still 6.8 light years away from Omega I and Extra just radioed in, he's recalibrating the engines to UPD standards for this sector. As usual, the "fuzz" don't like it when Freelancers blast through the area at full warp. So, our present speed is dropping to..." he paused to check a digital screen readout. "..2.2 G, this sector requires us to run at half engine power. Must be a quiet zone!" he retorted. "That delays us by about a half hour from our original ETA. We still would be ahead of schedule overall" Roach smiled mischievously, "You still have a whole 2 hours with the Kestras, sir!. You know, I do recall saying at the start of all this that this whole shipment was a horrible idea and that we should consider accepting the offer to transport those Numorian fashion models to their next catwalk destination. Did you see the curves on those girls...wow!". he shook his head mockingly at the captain. "But did you listen to me?...Nooooo. You were all, "that's rubbish money. I will not turn this vessel into the fashion industries pimp-ship" and so on and so forth..now your just paying the price". He let out a sigh. "Just a sec, I need to contact the engine room"
"Hey Extra!" Roach called out suddenly through the intercom. "I hope you remember my favorite default settings on those engines buddy. This baby wasn't built to lumber around like a UDP cruiser you know, she's meant to shoot through time and space" he made a gliding gesture with his hands as he spoke.
Roach paused to adjust some instrumentation, the smile from his face slowly disappearing as he turned to face the captain again. "Are you still wondering about that UPD transmission?. That's been bothering me for some time now. Who knows what they want to interrogate us about?. Given our history it could be anything. It's not like we haven't dabbled in some under the table activity before. Do we have a plan, Captain?" he asked slowly as Issaria walked in. He smiled and nodded at her as if to say 'Sup?
[Just so you know, I am the captain]
The young man ran into the control room, nervously tripping over his own feet.
"Was the message received?" the young man nervously nodded, "Excellent, you are dismissed."
Mike typed Walters name into the computer, a rather impressive record. The assassination of 5 high- value targets, quickly working his way up the ranks of the UPD. Much like himself, a ruthless man who will stop at nothing to get what he needs, that is why Mike had to keep a close eye on him.
He turned on the intercom and began his orders,
Code:
"Attention crew members, in approximately 28 hours, we will be arriving on Omega I, once there, we will receive a ship called The Sakkara. If even a single member of this ship is harmed, I will personally find the crew member responsible and bludgeon them to death with my bare hands. Do I make myself clear? Transmission over, back to work.
Mike sat down on his control chair,
These idiots must be ruled over with an iron fist. If I am not abundantly clear about something, they will be sure to mess it up.
Several hours ago, 4.1 light years behind the Sakkara...
Admiral William Troy, High Command Officer of the UPD fleets. On board shuttle Ikam, en route to UPD Cruiser Thantos
"Sir, we have dropped out of Warp" a voice woke him up from deep sleep. A small man, wearing glasses and a digital clipboard stood over his bed, a worried look passes his face as the Admiral finally stirred. "Son, do you know what my orders were?" Admiral Troy began calmly as he got up from his bed.
"Yes, sir. You told me to wake you once we docked with the Thantos,..sir!" the young lieutenant answered shakily.
"..and are we docked with the Thantos Lieutenant?" the admiral pressed again as he began to straighten his collar.
"Er..no..sir, but I just wanted to -" he was interrupted as the Admiral spun around to deliver a crushing stare.
"Son, I expect my orders to be carried out specifically to the word. You only had to interrupt me if we were in an emergency. Are we in an emergency, Lieutenant?"
"No sir, but-"
"Well then, since you blatantly disobeyed an order from a superior officer I have no choice but to transfer you from your post as punishment for your insubordination, effective from tomorrow. Prepare to report to the Prison Colony of Veaga III. You will be assigned a guard duty, dress accordingly. I'll have the paper work ready once I have finished with my official business" he proceeded as if the trembling lieutenant had said nothing all along.
"Now, would you see to it that you complete you last day in command of this shuttle and get me to that ship" he roared as he stormed out of the room.
Sullenly, the lieutenant of the Ikam walked onto the bridge and sat in his chair. He watched as the large UPD cruiser loomed into view a few miles ahead of him. He cleared his throat before pressing a button on the communicator.
"Attention, UPD Cruiser Thantos, this is the UPD shuttle Ikam carrying Admiral Troy of High Command. We have orders to dock with your vessle and deliver the Admiral to you. Requesting permission to board your vessle and that you lower your weapons and open a docking bay. Please respond commanding officer of the Thantos
@ ravensshade: Weapons control is wherever you want it to be.
@ everyone else: I also will be controlling Admiral Troy. In case you didn't notice.
