Due to the current economical malaise I am drawn to the budget side of the game store. Just this afternoon I went there to get my gaming fix for this month. It kinda makes me feel like a cheapskate, digging in those big metal wired bins that have those obnoxiously loud signs on them. But once you let your social inhibitions slide and start digging in that endless pile, the rewards can be great.

Today my bounty consists of three games: Condemned (4.99?), Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (5.99?) and Supreme Commander limited edition (8.99?). So for about 20? I have just bought a massive amount of gameplay hours. It's a great way to increase your collection pretty fast. Do you agree or do you avoid the budget bins like the plague?

Wasn't there JUST a topic on this subject? Or very similar? Frankly I will very rarely pay more than 30 bucks for a game and typically much less; they just don't tend to be worth it. so yeah, the discount rack/bin/bucket/etc is usually where I look first.

I avoid budget bins usually and i'm starting to think I shouldn't. The biggest hassle is digging through those disorganized things.

As i mentioned in another thread, i managed to pick up a copy of blue dragon for £4. If that isn't value for gameplay hours, i don't know what is.

I generally only look through those areas. I've only bought a few games at full price and one of them was Blue Dragon. The only reason I did that was because I had Just gotten an Xbox 360 and a used copy was only $5 less than a brand new, unopened copy.

If you don't want to look through bins just go on amazon or ebay.
I buy pretty much all my games off amazon nowadays, and even with the postage it works out cheaper.
The last time I bought I got four quality games for £20, thats like half the price of one brand new. Admittedly I'm still buying Ps1 & 2, and don't own a next/current gen console, but just because theres a new console out doesn't mean you should abandon the old ones when theres probably a huge back catalogue you never got to play.

I've learned to love GamersGate for its large collection of sub-$20 games, many of which were simply games I missed out on when they first launched. The nice thing about direct-download is that there's no retail overhead so they can keep a developer's entire back catalog on there if they so desired. Steam's starting to do this and there's also CD Projekt's GOG.com service. Pure heaven for the classic or budget-minded gamer, the PC's answer to the WiiWare/Virtual Console/XBLAs of the world.

The only game that I purchased within within six months of its release for the past two years or so was the Orange Box. I pretty much thrive on freeware and bargain bins.
